A letter signed by the Mahdi Army linked to Moqtada al-Sadr, the radical Iraqi Shiite cleric who the United States considers the greatest threat to security in Iraq, warned Christian women in Baghdad to wear the veil as do Muslim women. It is the latest in a long string of abuses against Iraqi Christians, including rape, murder, kidnapping, extortion and forced conversions, AsiaNews reported Wednesday.
The letter, an English translation of which was published by Aina news agency Wednesday, said "Was the Virgin Mary (peace be upon her) unveiled so that Christian women be allowed to be unveiled? Was Fatima al-Zahra unveiled? And were the wives of the Caliphs in the First Caliphate or others unveiled? No, and then no ... Allah forbid and far be it from all of them." It then warns "She is an adulteress, and she even proclaims sinfulness, challenges and fights Allah and his Prophet and ignores and neglects religion."
Answering the question "What measure should be taken against a woman who disobeys her father, husband, or her guardian by not committing to the legal veil?" the letter said husbands and fathers "must guide and educate her religiously in order to convince her. If she is not convinced still, then they must imprison her at home and do not expose her to the forbidden interaction with men." Finally, it warns "special committees have been established to follow up on this matter."

If we pull out without having destroyed the Ayatollahs in Iran and their nuclear program or the Baathist Syrians, we loose too much in the Islamic world.
If I told you that the current administration has been infiltrated by agents of the Iranian government, you’d be hard-pressed to come up with any argument to refute that statement.
Anyone should know it is impossible to create an Islamic democracy—the two cannot mix. They have to have freedom of religion. So if Iraq has the cult as its official belief, democracy over there is doom.

In part I agree with you, mainly for the reason that Islam, in its current state in most of the world, is totally incompatible with freedom. I also think that Bush completely over estimated the Iraqi people, about half of whom are ignorant savages.
That said, I can think of one good reason for being there: The Bug Zapper. Our presence there draws radical savages in from other countries and we are able to terminate them there. Every single one of these booger eaters would happily come here to raise hell, but we get them there first. Other than that I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that most Iraqi’s enjoy violence, oppression, murder and the worship of death. Its the only thing they really understand.
Looks like we have another excuse to kill radicals some more, and more, and more.
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the Iraq people vote for their new constitution and not forced on them by the US Government ?
Just as a side note, do you really think in a country like Iraq, a secular constitution would have passed and been ratified?
Islam in itself as the official state religion in the Iraqi constitution is meaningless to a radical Islamic.
The Koran and Shari law supersedes any written document voted for by a democratic means.
In other words the Iraqi constitution is about as meaningful to an radical Islamic as the toilet paper Sheryl Crow using even if it is only one square

1,000 years ago, when the Muslim conquerors actually had some power, they were actually more tolerant. If you paid a “jizya” or tax they would leave believers of other faiths alone to worship.
Today, Americans and Europeans are finding out what my ancestors have known for years...a lot of these people are insane religious fundamentalist.
That’s why my parents came to America. I suppose I should be grateful in a round about way to the Islamic extremists. If it weren’t for their extremism, I wouldn’t be here in this great country today living a great life.
