Shotgun: Mossberg 590. Rock-solid 12-gauge that just works.
Rifle: Styer Scout if you can afford it, Remington 700 otherwise, Leupold scope; whatever you get, go scoped .308 - most general-purpose straightforward design you can.
Second rifle: Colt M4-style AR-15 in .223; it's "America's rifle" for a reason.
Lots of other suggestions will be made. Just stick with these solid basics, as optimizations for one will cost you dearly in other aspects. Example: some will suggest an AK47 or SKS as cheaper & more powerful than an AR15, but then you lose compatibility with the national industry standard, can't ride police/military coattails, and indeed you get what you pay for. You want standard, common, available, "just works" kinda tools.
I like most of it, but for this line above, Pat will always be seen as just at least a bit out of sync.

Buchanan had me agreeing til I read the above. In Europe in particular, the tide has swung Bush’s way in both Germany and France, and whats called New Europe has always supported him.
