Bush scolds balking GOP

By Stephen Dinan and Ralph Z. Hallow THE WASHINGTON TIMES Published June 2, 2007

President Bush yesterday renewed his attack on Republicans who oppose his immigration bill, again charging that they are trying to "frighten people" and calling on supporters to rally around the compromise.

The president pleaded with senators to "show courage and resolve" to withstand outrage from voters in their districts.

"It is right to argue for what you believe and recognize that compromise might be necessary to move the bill along. And it is right to take political risk for members of the United States Congress," Mr. Bush said in his second impassioned plea this week on the issue and the second time that he has accused Republicans of trying to scare voters by labeling provisions in the bill an "amnesty."

But many Republican senators say the bill is both an amnesty and unworkable and argue that Mr. Bush's barbs are off the mark.

"I'm not going around frightening people. People are frightened, and they're trying to scare the politicians into voting the way they want them to," said Sen. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican, whose opposition to the bill has earned him standing ovations at speeches and events back home during the past week.

Mr. Bush's challenge followed a speech in Georgia on Tuesday that infuriated Republican opponents of his bill. And the renewed challenge came just a day after White House press secretary Tony Snow said the administration was trying to "lower the temperature and get people to talk about basic principles."

The fight is taking a serious toll on Republicans. The Washington Times reported yesterday that small donations to the Republican National Committee have dropped by an estimated 40 percent

The shame is that who really represents the Average American anymore?
The Dems are leftist who will take the USA to ruin.
The GOP has no backbone to defend even thier staunchist supporters.
I am disgusted with everyone...

A nation without secured borders ceases to be a nation.

That's the plan.

And we could have a national “referendum” on who is the worst president ever: GA Jimmuh’ or GWB?

Was I wrong to support and vote for President Bush in 2004?

No. Think about it. If John Fracking Kerry were pres (or, going back to 2000, Al Gore).

- We'd not have gone to war over the attack on us. We'd have "opened a dialogue."
- As a result of that, we'd probably have suffered at least two more attacks (Spain?).
- There'd be no partial birth abortion ban.
- We wouldn't be talking about amnesty, they'd just make it happen. These are Socialists, remember, "Look at my RIGHT hand, ignore what my LEFT hand is doing".
- We'd probably be even mor crippled industrially because of crap enacted to "avoid global warming".
- We'd probably be paying for ALL medical for EVERYONE, as he would have pushed through some idiot form of universal health care.
- Our taxes would have been raised (a LOT to pay for that UHC), not dropped. - We'd have at least two hideously liberal Supremes for the next 30 years.

I'm sure there are others. We DO need to get a grip, here. He's NOT the worst president ever. He's very wrong on this issue, and yes, he's handled it wrong, but he has done some good things.

No, GWB is an enforcer — ask those two Border Patrol agents in his adopted state. He just won’t enforce the law — he goes after his natural supporters.

"Staffers at the RNC operate in a closed, closely watched environment, with the White House IN FULL CONTROL of VIRTUALLY ALL MOVEMENT, current and former Republican officials said privately.

Some of these RNC staff members -- in what one committee insider described as "responsible positions" -- are eager to find a more ideologically compatible employer in a 'less-confining environment' and think Mr. Thompson's informal campaign is the anwer.

Conservatives who have been in the movement for many years, however, say these dedicated operatives scurrying off the RNC's 'listing ship' may find THAT MR. THOMPSON HAS SOLD HIMSELF AS THE SAVIOR OF CONSERVATIVES, MUCH AS MR. BUSH did...."

There'd be no partial birth abortion ban.

We struggled for this for a decade, and it will prove to be mostly irrelevant. Why? Liberal physicians just change the procedure used.

I am afraid if this bill passes, this will be the beginning of the end of this great nation of ours, as we know it today.

Maybe he/we lost our way or maybe this is a plan coming to fruition. I voted for him twice, knowing this was a possibility but also knowing the other choice was a quicker suicide.

I had hoped that his religious conversion was real and would cause him not to follow his father's globalist path.

I used the word globalist because people don't offer to make you a foil hat over that word. Bush 41 himself used the term New World Order which means the same thing--the end of this great nation as we know it today. It means a version of the EU with the political class in firm control.

With very few exceptions on both sides our elected officials belong to the Political Class Party.

You’ve nailed it. We are nothing but dirty, dumb, FRIGHTENED peasants who should wave the American flag when we send our children off to Iraq and the Mexican flag to greet our uppers. It is the total disdain Bush has towards those whose sons and daughters are fighting his war that gulls me most.

Can you say DICTATORSHIP?

I am finally realizing what it means to have a representative democracy. We only vote for the person, and must trust that our choices were correct. But if they are not, we are stuck with a non-represetnative democracy until the next election when it will be too late.

You are right about Bush/Clintons/Mena. I always understood that was why the Bush DOJ carefully avoided any meaningful prosecution.

I used to believe/hope that Bush 43 was only protecting his father and his administration out of a wrong but well-meaning sense of loyalty to family even at the cost of harm to the country.

However, when Jeb calls Clinton "bro" and Bush 41 and "Bar" call him "son", a very different and even uglier picture begins to form. IMO it's not just blackmail. The Political Class has more in common with each other than they do with us, even when they pretend to be in opposition.

" Deny the RNC/GOP your resources of time and money also. Dry up the RINO watering hole."

Tad, thanks for reminding us of the iron law of politics: MONEY rules. This morning I sent the following email to all friends and family members:

RNC: "Hello, sir, I'm from the Republican National Committee and I'm hoping you will contribute money today to help us pass the immigration bill.”
Victim: "But I hate that bill. It's pure amnesty. And I hate my Republican senators for being traitors.”
RNC: "Oh, no sir, it's not an amnesty."
Victim: "It is too. Just drop dead, all of you idiots."
RNC: "I'm so glad you agree with us on the not-an-amnesty bill. Can I write you down for $100 today, sir?"
Victim: "Why should I pay to have you people ruin the country?"
RNC: "Sir, perhaps you could support us with $50 today."
Victim: "I'd pay $50 to see an angry mob beat the crap out of those worthless bums in the Senate."
RNC: “Well, how about $25, sir?”
Victim: “Look, they can’t fool me this time. This bill is just a big payback to the big agricultural corporations for their campaign contributions.”
RNC: “Could you posibly donate $10 today, sir?”
Victim: “Call me when you get the fence built.”
RNC: "Will that be check or credit card, sir?"
Victim: “Can I go throw up now?”

Unbelievable, this man is alienating his base over this amnesty bill and he still doesn’t get it. I almost regret voting for him now.

What we need to see are the list of the largest Republican donors to the party after the announcement of shamnesty, and we will see who the true supporters of the president are.

Where can we see a list that tells us when donations were made?

If they don’t want my money anymore, who will pick up the slack?
