Cleveland's Lawsuit Draws NRA Fire (NRA Intervenes To Protect Ohio's Preemption Law Alert)

Cleveland's challenge of a state law that prevents Ohio cities from making their own gun laws faces a new opponent -- The National Rifle Association.

The NRA reported Wednesday that it intervened in a lawsuit that Cleveland filed against the state in March in an attempt to overturn the law.

"We have joined in this lawsuit as a defendant-intervenor to protect law-abiding gun owners in Ohio from harassment by an unreasonable and confusing patchwork of municipal gun laws," NRA chief lobbyist Chris W. Cox said in a statement.

A new provision of the state's concealed-carry gun law voided local firearms ordinances, including local bans on assault weapons.

Cleveland's lawsuit contends the new law is unconstitutional because it interferes with the city's home-rule rights to govern itself and to exercise police powers.

At the time of the filing, Mayor Frank Jackson vowed to continue enforcing city gun laws, including those prohibiting minors from possessing firearms.

The NRA is intervening to protect Ohio's gun pre-emption laws - which prohibit local jurisdictions from enacting gun restrictions stricter than allowed by state law. Gun pre-emption protects gun owners and hunters by making sure there's a uniform and consistent set of laws they have to follow.

I’m a Life Member now working on becoming a Benefactor and when the NRA does stuff like this I’m happy that my money is going to a good cause.

Which part of “shall not be infringed” is so difficult to understand?

The NRA is intervening to do what the useless Democrat City Admin, the Pain Dealer and the Alt.media vigorously refuse to do: Protect law-abiding Clevelanders.

I cite the recent justified and thank-god killing of A.C (Ace) Buford, street trash that needed killing. He crossed the wrong man in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood of Cleveland, a man armed and with a CCW permit. The "youts" of the neighborhood rewarded the man that took out the trash by vandalizing his house. Mayor Mumbles Jackson didn't have anything to say. He always has plenty to say against the police when they shoot to defend themselves.

This was so sickening that NAACP Chairman and former Council President George Forbes offered to stand guard overnight so this guy wasn't burned out of his house by neighbors. Cleveland has had a long history building up to this, starting with the booger-eating alt.media (Free Slimes, the obScene) which glorify crime and life in the joint, through the mainstreaming of their urinalists into the police-hating crime-loving Pain Dealer, and garnishing their sob stories with the blatherings of Vagina Brett and Connie Shultz(maried to traitor Senator Sherrod Brown). These weepy broads have lead the charge to "understand" street trash, and whine and cry that school achievement tests are too hard.

I recommend a public horse-whipping for the abovementioned culprits and the return of the terrritory of the Municipal Corporation of Cleveland to township status. These people are clearly not capable of self government.

Oh, the "authorities" understand it well enough.

It's an impediment to their agenda, that's all.

You’re obviously local and well-understand the situation. Could you give us the full story, and not hold back, this time?
