Peggy Noonan and The WSJ Editorial - It's Time to Revolt!
Red State ^ | June 1, 2007

However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.

Try this clip on for size :

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.

For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.

But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

"And the President cannot issue executive orders that contradict any Act of Congress"

A large percentage of executive orders do exactly that.

These recent “crackdowns” are probably orchestrated to con people like you into believing “amnesty” is the only solution.

It is rather curious that news cameras seemed to be there most of the time, isn't it?

"If he makes any such move, Hunter, Tancredo et al should bring articles of impeachment to the floor that very day."

On his last day in office?

The Birchers are so busy looking for Bilderbergers under the bed that they miss the socialists at the door. Buchanan and Perot and the people that supported them helped get Clinton elected. So don’t tell me they always vote Republican. Where were some of these voters when good reliable conservatives were defeated last fall. I’m talking about Santorum, Allen, and Hayworth, etc.

What’s your beef with me and what got your drawers in a wad in my reply to SerpentDove? Are you a Bircher? Or maybe more likely a Perotista or Buchananite? You need to stop firing from the hip and antagonizing the ones of us that may agree with you 90% of the time. It does you no good and in the end makes you look silly.

Do you think I care what you think of Me? You are attacking a lot of people as you well know, that was your purpose. I simply responded in kind. I appologize for lowering myself to your ‘superior’ level. And for your information, I’m not a member of any group, especially either of these two screwed up parties. What do you identify yourself as? Let me guess...a ‘moderate’.

I was aware of the translations and if they are accurate I’m sure he’s done a great service for this country. When there was a thread, who’s the greatest freeper or something like that, I put in my vote for him because of the translations along with other freepers that I think have had great impact.

I’m just saying that he’s spouting things on here as “fact” that are certainly suspect if not flat out untrue, refuses to back up his “facts” when asked. Yes, it does make me wonder if there is any accuracy in anything he says. Are you aware if anyone backed up his translations?

If I’m off base I would certainly apologize but no, he won’t back up his assertions.

In 1972 I supported John Ashbrook first but voted for Nixon in the general election.

In 1976 I supported Ronald Reagan first but voted for Ford.

In 1980 I supported Phil Crane first and voted for Reagan.

In 1984 I supported and voted for Reagan.

In 1988 I supported and voted for Pete DuPont and then Bush.

In 1992 I supported and voted for Buchanan (as a protest) and then Bush.

In 1996 I supported and voted for Forbes and then Dole.

In 2000 I supported and voted for Bush after Forbes quit.

In 2004 I supported and voted for Bush.

In this time period I’ve helped elect some of the most conservative Senators in Washington, Dewey Barlett, Don Nickles, Jim Inhofe, and Tom Coburn. We also sent the first Republican Representative from my Congressional District in decades. I’ll put my Conservative credentials up against anyone’s. It’s obvious you don’t know what a Conservative is or you wouldn’t confuse me with anything else.

Now, as far as you caring what I think of you thats fine. But understand I don’t give a damn about your opinion of me, either. You were the one that interjected into my reply to another poster with a snide remark. You wanted this exchange and now you have it. You are wrong about one thing, though, you do belong to a group. It’s the group that will cut off their own nose to spite their face.

I need to correct something in my prior post. One time I voted for Kemp but I can’t remember which year it was. My mind is failing me in my old age.

Please also note, jveritas has been on several threads since but has still not attempted to defend himself on this. Yes, I know he’s busy but if someone questioned my integrity and character, you damn right I’d be there to defend myself. Nuff said.

Defend what ozarkgril? That my translations of the Iraqi documents are not accurate. They are very accurate and some people vetted some of the translations I did and they found it to be 100% accurate. I sent some of the translations to a respected News outfit (on our side) to write stories based on it and they did write the stories, do not you think that they vetted my translations before I they wrote the stories. I sent it to them for free and I refused to get a penny in return like I did all my translations for free. I did this because I believe that it is my duty in this time of war to serve this greatest nation in history who I owe an eternal debt that I can never pay back no matter what I do. I did it to show that Saddam never stopped his WMD programs and that he did have very strong relation to terrorism. And what I did is absolutely nothing compared to the daily sacrifices of our brave troops who are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere to defend our freedom and our way of life.

Shame on you for raising this question ozarkgirl.

PJ: Thank you very much for all your support, I greatly appreciate it.

Answer this: after amnesty, do you still expect these small businesses who hire "now documented" former illegal aliens to continue paying below-minimum cash wages under the table, or will the newly documented workers be forced to file W-4's, have income taxes, FICA, unemployment insurance, etc, deducted from their wages? Do you imagine that "documented" wages might put these people into a net-loss vs. what they were receiving via unreported cash wages? Isn't that what "coming out of the shadows" really means?

I expect them to pay minimum wage+ a bit more. However many businesses even now pay illegal immigrant much more than just minimum wage, however they are profiting now by not giving them a lot of the benefits and paid vacations, and that save them a lot of money, this practice will continue to a large degree even after the illegal immigrants are legalized via a Z-visa. If the employer sponsors somone for a work visa, he needs to report their wages and deduct the required taxes from their paychecks. However I expect the businesses to be very creative in this issue since the tax code is full of loopholes. I expect them to give them so very basic accidental insurance at work.

So, will that make z-visa holders better off or worse off than before? Do you expect most illegals to become legal and have their wages regularized, or do you expect most to stay in the shadows and try to keep the status quo?

Thank YOU. That post came about because I was accused of talking against “hate Bush” comments due to wanting to “stifle dissent” against this bill. Unbelievable. As if there haven’t been far too many such despicable comments, and as if I was in favor of the bill (when I’m against it right here on this thread).

It is hard to tell. I think the major attraction in a z-visa for an illegal alien is that if he gets it he can go back and forth to his country without the fear of being deported. How many illegal immigrants will go for it, I do not know.

I can only trust what you say is true and I’m not in a mood to “trust” you. You have posted things that are not true on this thread and that is documented. Do not say “shame on me” for questioning anything. I have no idea what you translated is true. I can only judge by what you’ve posted here. That is my gauge and it’s purely conjective. I trusted you before just on your word, now I doubt your word. Sorry, that’s the way it is.

No offense, but if your “translations” are as honest as you’ve been here verifying facts on illegal immigration, terribly doubtful.

Had you not posted unverifiable facts on this thread, I would have trusted you without question. Now, I question.

I’m sorry.
