Peggy Noonan and The WSJ Editorial - It's Time to Revolt!
Red State ^ | June 1, 2007

However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.

Try this clip on for size :

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.

For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.

But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

A good percentage are Birchers, Buchananites, and Perotistas.

And those people vote republican, so what's your beef? Where's that 'big tent' republicans are always talking about?

The fining and jailing of small businesses that hire illegal immigrants will have the same backlash as the scenario I presented in the mass physical deportation. But even worst it will also extremely bad effect on the economy that it will cause a depression worst than of 1929. No President and No congress is going to do this.

It is amazing how you guys suddenly ceded the point of "mass physical deportation" does not work when I presented you with a simple realistic problem.

Knowing the American people in general and their good nature than most of the people who are screaming otherwise.

You yourself ceded the point that " mass physical deportation" does not work so what are you still arguing about.

President Bush is right, God bless President Bush.

The vast majority of illegal immigrants are hired by small businesses, you go after small businesses and they lose their profit, you will triple if not quadruple the numbers of unemployment rate on Americans, I am not talking here about illegal immigrants. Taking the nature of the economy and how everything is so connected, a huge hit on the small businesses will have a tsunami effect that hit all other sectors of the economy. Yes it will be worst than the 1929 depression.

I never ceded the point that mass physical deportation doesn’t work, I said it was unecessary. If you wonder if it can work it can and did in Operation W**back, 1954.

How dramatic! JV, if you get rid of 20 million aliens, we won't need the jobs to build them houses, schools, etc, etc, etc.....

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1840655/posts

Do you realize if this AMNESTY happens we are in effect creating the equivilent of adding over 17 more states to this country? And that’s not even considering the chain migration that is in the Senate bill. Please look at what giving amnesty to as many as 20,000,000 illegal alien foreign nationals actually represents. More than the population of 16 states and DC!

According to the 2000 census, 18,785,867 is the total populations combined of Wyoming, Dist. of Columbia, Vermont, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware, Montana, Rhode Island, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Maine, Idaho, Nebraska, West Virginia, New Mexico and Nevada.

THINK about that.

Umm what did small businesses do before they hired illegals? Before President Bush opened our borders? your straw argument went up in flames before and it is no beter now.

Excuse me but where the heck did I say that? Calling congress corrupt? That can change. Also it does not have to be “mass deportation” but it could be. It’s more effective if you kill the lawbreakers room and board. They throw a fit and don’t go back deport their behinds. Ones that want to cross won’t see the advantage. What is so hard to understand?

The borders have been opened for generations long before President Bush came into office. That is another big lie to say that the President opened the borders. And since illegal immigrants have been here for generation, these small businesses always hired them. The issue of illegal immigration and businesses hiring illegal immigrants did not start on January 20 2001.

It makes perfect sense what exactly you did not understand or not willing to understand. If John Smith has a construction firm and hires 12 illegal immigrants from Mexico and you after John Smith fining or jailing him for hiring the illegal immigrants and ask him to fire the illegal immigrants as well, he will lose his business and he will be out of work and his family will suffer as well. Multiply John Smith and his family by a million and here you have an economic depression.

Oh for crying out loud, President Bush has not enforced the laws, and with his talk of amnesty has invited them over. There has been a huge increase in illegals since after the election in 2004 when George started waving them over with both hands.

here try some history

Here you go again. Does every small business hire illegals?

Plus your rantings cloud your intellect so much you never consider that if punishment were given employers would be deterred to hire illegals in the first place?

Also, ever hear of unions, strikes, “living wage”, entitlements and all those goodies found at the ballot box?

Answer my damned questions instead of hurling rantings unsupported by facts and posting straw man crap.

Your quest for slave labor is a pipe dream, the only slaves will be those who pay taxes if we keep going down the road we are currently on.

There is a REASON why the small businesses are hiring illegal immigrants “it is very profitable for them” period. If they do not use this cheap labor, they will go out of business and a lot of things will be vastly more expensive. It will rack the economy very badly if this happens.

Funny isn’t it, how deportation suddenly can’t work when it’s been practiced and worked for centuries.

Just ask these people, and it was done without modern transportation and they weren’t even aliens.

http://ngeorgia.com/history/nghisttt.html

“In one of the saddest episodes of our brief history, men, women, and children were taken from their land, herded into makeshift forts with minimal facilities and food, then forced to march a thousand miles(Some made part of the trip by boat in equally horrible conditions). Under the generally indifferent army commanders, human losses for the first groups of Cherokee removed were extremely high.”

Peggy Noonan is not speaking ill of another conservativve;George Bush is not a conservative and never ran as one.He just appeared to be the lesser of two evils in the last two presidential elections.

Rollo:

Man, I already destroyed in one post half of your solution for illegal immigration when you agreed with President Bush that "Mass Physical deportation" will not work. The same will happen for the other half which is punishing of small businesses that hire illegal immigrants.

For example in Massachusetts, few months ago, they raided a factory that hire illegal immigrants. What has been the "fear factor" effect on the other businesses that hire illegal immigrants in MA because of that? ZERO, absolutely Zero.

MOST small businesses are NOT hiring Illegal aliens, JV, only those you feel some sort of connection with. You’ve been given the facts for 4 years...you know that a small percent of the costs is labor. If we hire Americans at $10 an hour instead of an alien to pick lettuce, the head of lettuce goes up 5 CENTS! FIVE CENTs! Do you so imbrace illegality that you wouldn’t pay another 5 cents for a head of lettuce? If you are Christian as you say, money is not your god. This country was founded on the rule of law, not economic expediency for the few.
