Peggy Noonan and The WSJ Editorial - It's Time to Revolt!
Red State ^ | June 1, 2007

However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.

Try this clip on for size :

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.

For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.

But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

You cannot deport the 12 million illegal immigrants who are here directly by physically deporting them or indirectly by fining and jailing the businesses (mostly small businesses) that hire them. The millions of illegal immigrants are here to stay, so it is better to find a solution to give them a work visa.

What I don’t understand about you is if you are what you say, a legal permanent resident applying for citizenship, why are you not more angry than the rest of us?

I always liken it to waiting in line at the theatre, you stand in line, ready to pay as you go, then a whole bunch of other people go in in front of you. Not only do they go in front of you, they don’t bother to pay! Then you finally get there, there aren’t any seats left.

If you are a legal permanent citizen you have a strange stance on illegals. Legal citizens generally are more upset because they did it legally.

Also, I don’t understand why you keep coming to these threads to stir up trouble. You aren’t changing anyone’s mind, in fact you are making people more angry. I was a big believer in legal immigration from all over the world but if you are the type of new citizens we’re getting, I might change my view on that.

It was the same guy who ran against Eisenhower in 1952 and lost badly in the first time and he lost badly as well in the second time in 1956.

Not at all, I am on this thread to defend President Bush from hateful attacks against him.

In regards to the illegal immigration issue, I am a realistic person on how to resolve it, and I do not live in utopia world of unpractical solutions.

You have yet to give a proper reason why deportation combined with cutting off public funds plus jailing and fining employers won’t work. Don’t give me that “it will destroy the US economy not backing you statements by facts” BS.

Tough love works wonders, too bad the stench of compromise and empty promises run wild in the halls of Congress because this could be a great country if freedom, appreciation of personal property rights, self-government and basically what our Founders envisioned came to pass.

Unfortunately people like yourself excuse lawbreakers and politicians that seek not to better themselves or their country but to TAKE for themselves.

Gee, if their was such a “backlash” Stevenson would have picked up EV not loose them.

Of course there was no backlash what so ever only a greased up congress loving and excusing the slave labor.

I am not here to change anyone mind, the same that you cannot change my mind. As I said I am here to defend the President, the Commander in Chief, from savage attacks against him, attacks full of lies and distortions.

So you only want legal immigrants who must agree with your view point on the illegal immigration issue? How about their views on social issues? should you make a test for immigrants and check if they have conservative or liberal philosophy and accept only those who agree with your what you think? Your ideas are exactly the opposite to the very principles that this great country was founded upon.

There is a housing complex in Los Angeles that houses 1,000 illegal immigrants and some have wives and children living with them. You are a law enforcement officer and you are tasked with a group of law enforcement personnel to physically deport these 1,000 illegal immigrants by force as it was the case in "Operation Wetback" back in 1954.

Please show me your plan on how you are going to achieve this and not cause huge back lash in the country. Also tell me how many law enforcement personnel you need for such an operation.

PS: The media is there and everything an being broadcasted live on TV screens to the whole nation while you are conducting the deportation operation.

As I said, all you are doing is trying to stir up trouble. I said I was surprised at your attitude as usually legal immigrants don't like illegals. At NO POINT WHATSOEVER did I say everyone had to agree with me. Geez, no wonder you're so popular here.

I do not like illegal immigration and I am for a very strong border security to stop illegal immigration. The heart of the debate no matter how we spin it, is what to do with the illegal immigrants here in the US. I have my practical and realistic solution and agree with the President on most of his approach to resolve the issue with the illegal immigrants here. The vast majority of people on this forum want and demand the deportation of the millions of illegal immigrants directly ( physical deportation), and/or indirectly by fining and jailing the employers (mostly small businesses) who hire them. I disagree with this approach because not only it will not work, but it will have such a huge backlash that will make the illegal immigration much worse than it is now.

JV, you've said over and over that the border should be secured and welfare cut off. If we did that and enforce employment, labor laws (which BUSH WON'T) there would be no need to deport them. Unfortunately, because of people like you and Bush, millions of alien children have been born here and placed in a awful position. The innocent always suffer for the mistakes of their parents and leaders. And that fact hasn't changed in this country or any other one for that matter.

Listen, my ancestors were marched out by US soldiers in the dead of winter, forced out of their homes and towns, many died. I pray we've learned to be more humane. Deporting a lawbreaking illegal alien is NOT the same thing, and if you can't see that, what can I say?

OK then, you cannot physically deport the illegal immigrants in masses and you just proved my point.

I’ll make this simple so even you will understand.

Go back and read some of my posts in the “Laura Ingraham Takes Off The Gloves” thread. Ruination was trying to tell us Clinton and Carter were better than Bush. Anybody that thinks either of those two fools is better than Bush has to either be a democrat or a liberal. There are no other choices. That is just one example among many others.

Now as far as Left-Wingers posing as Conservatives or Libertarians do you honestly believe every single poster from the beginning of this website has believed in our principles? It doesn’t take many to cause mayhem and I believe there has been an organized effort from the beginning to spread propaganda and misinformation to hurt our cause. Some aren’t even democrats or socialists. A good percentage are Birchers, Buchananites, and Perotistas.

Now, would you deny any of this?

Like I said you know nothing about law enforcement and just proved it. Force is necessary only when all other reasonable procedures have been used and their is emminent danger to the public. You don't need to go into their compound, they have to come out. Take away their jobs and social services and they will leave on their own. They left their own country on their own because of poor conditions, so we need to make them wish to return to their own country because they cannot earn a living here. Simple isn't it?

Its like getting a cat out of a tree do you climb up after it or wait for it to get hungry and thirsty and come down? Have you ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree that died of thirst or hunger? No it came down and sought refuge where it was available.

Really? May be 10% at max of the population will be cheering, the rest will be going crazy on what is going on and the backlash will be beyond anything you have ever dreamed of. It will be so bad that no official will dare to publicly talk about "illegal immigration" for the next 50 years and the problem will become much worse than ever. Mass physical deportation does not work and hence President Bush is right on this issue.

The same goes for fining and jailing the employers who hire illegal immigrants, it will have the same problem and backlash.

The only backlash, and it would be small but loud thanks to the press, will be from ignoramuses who let feelings rather than intellect take over.

I would then have to baby these ignoramuses by teaching them economics 101, what deficits are, what unfunded liabilities are, and give a history lesson on why the Roman and other Empires fell.

After that tell the corrupt Mexican politicians and the 20+ plus families that control the country to F’ off, we are going to out drill your corrupt ass.

If we have the $$$ to send billions to Africa then we have the $$$ to spend on deportation. It does not have to be a big operation since the strategy would be first to go after those that harbor/employ lawbreakers. Cutoff public funding, shoot to kill orders on the border and generally make the thought of even attempting to cross the border scarier than Hillary in the White House. Just make the deterrent as miserable as you can.

Oh yes, biggest thing is to change laws regarding anchor babies and harboring except if you are a political refugee.

What is your solution, provide the death blow to the US and make the tax payers slaves to entitlement class?
