Peggy Noonan and The WSJ Editorial - It's Time to Revolt!
Red State ^ | June 1, 2007

Posted on 06/01/2007 5:41:16 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.

Try this clip on for size :

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.

For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.

But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

“Does anyone think Bush may pass this Amnesty Bill by Executive Order?”

If he can, then there no need for our Constitution, 535 crooks, and a wacko Supreme Court.

He will be known as “El Supremo Número Uno.” He will be having high tea, or probably better, whiskeys with his newly made dear friends Castro, Morales, Chavez, etc.

You have no idea how much I loath that moron.

Bush saves some of his harshest rhetoric of his presidency for his own side and fails to get tough and direct against our enemies (Wilson Affair, Alito smears, Durbin treason, Sandy Burglar, and on and on).

I've f'ng had enough.

I heard that he is for "free-trade". That's a code word for internationalism whichis the driving force behind the regional economic area movement which has given us the EU and will soon lead to the North American Union.

The John Birch Society stopped the expansion of NAFTA into South America (CAFTA) and they are working to stop this NAU crap. What I want to know is Fred going to be with us or not?

” Just like Laura Ingraham nailed it in her interview of Linda Chavez this morning...’

I’m waiting eagerly to hear from the Master Nailer — Mark Steyn.

I appreciate that folks are upset about the amnesty part of this bill. I do not generally think we should simply gear ourselves to simply winning elections, but to first thinking through the issues. HOWEVER, think backward from the Dems winning and appointing two or three Supremes. Now what do you feel about the next election? Everyone can be mad at Bush, and I am aggravated at certain things, too, but we need to keep it all on the table. Want abortion to be legal forever? Then think of staying home next November. This isn’t a time to pull a Nader.

Punish his side by withholding money. Make them sweat. But I sure hope everyone is going to get out there and vote. And I hope Fred will be the nominee!

“I heard that he is for “free-trade”. That’s a code word for internationalism’

Free trade = capitalism
Fair trade = protectionism

And quoting the John Birch society does nothing for your cause.

Oh - I also forgot the RNC/Bush backing of Chafee against a true conservative. BEFORE all of this nonsense, my family there, hardcore Repubs decided they were through.

Those of you defending Bush need to understand that this was MANY straws on the camel's back. And, for me, the last one.

Thanks for the link to Globalist Fred Thompson’s voting on immigration 1993-2003. An eye opener! If more of the same is wanted, vote for FDT. If you want real immigration resolution, VOTE FOR DUNCAN HUNTER, the man dedicated to turn the country around.

He adds that "if you're going to try to unwind immigration--the immigration bill--it's not right for the country. I'm not questioning anybody's patriotism of course, but I feel strongly that if one were to kill this bill . . . that there will be a consequence . . . from voters coming down the road, and more importantly, a consequence for the country."

"For those who call it amnesty, they're just trying to, in my judgment, frighten people about the bill. This bill is one that says we recognize that you're here illegally and there's a consequence for it. We can argue about the consequences, but you can't argue about the fact that there are consequences in this bill for people who have broken our law."

I'm not questioning anybody's patriotism of course

Wink wink. I'm sure you haven't gained weight, it's just the jeans that make your ass look so fat. Of course you are. And this is a classic way of doing it. Methinks the man doth protest too much. He has basically said several times that opponents of this bill want to harm this country, because they don't want to "save" it in his fashion.

they're just trying to, in my judgment, frighten people about the bill

Yes we are. But we're doing it with the truth. That is a monumental distinction.

but you can't argue about the fact that there are consequences in this bill for people who have broken our law

On the contrary, that is exactly what we can and are arguing. And we are 100% correct. And since I don't believe you are stupid Mr. Bush, I can only conclude you are lying; for reasons best known to yourself.

Screw Congress and their screwing laws. What good are laws when no one gives a flip?

Oh, we remember how Clinton acted like his wagging fingered lordship, cigars, bimbos and perjury married to the first harridan who lusts only for power, not him.

Now we have Amigo Bush with amnesty without animosity, whatever that's supposed to mean, flippin' his base off, Hasta La Vista, baby! spending his political capital in absolute love adoration and devoted coziness with the demoncraps and rhinos while calling his most dearly loyal and supportive base all sorts of ugly awful names, furthermore, frankly, I'm surprised he even read the 700 page plus bill.

He speaks of diversity, but nada in his own party. The bouncer kicked us out. Sayonara, er ah, adios chump gringos.

When did the President call you UNPATRIOTIC. Stop lying people, just stop lying.

I guess you just got back from a long trip to a distant land where you had no access to the news this past week and therefore missed Bush's "don't want to do what's right for America" crack. He said that in a speech on Tuesday.

So tell me, who, other than an unpatriotic American, would not "want to do what's right for America"?

So now you know when the President called me unpatriotic. Oh, and welcome home, by the way!

And you equate this as being called "UNPATRIOTIC"???!!! God help us. Some people on our side are becoming much more sensitive than liberals and their PC world.

You guys have so much hate for President Bush that is you are living in a parallel universe where you see only evil coming from his mouth even when he says "Hello".

Shame on you, just shame.

This thread is full of DU’s...............

Like me? I have voted in every local, state and federal election since 1972 and NEVER pulled the lever for a Democrat. But I will not back down from damning this sellout of United States sovereignty. This is Bush's pet project and because of that he deserves every bit of the criticism he is receiving AS REGARDS THE BILL.

I don't read the prayer threads, so I can only say that they are not the places to lambast him on this. But in the proper forums, yes, he deserves the reaming out he is getting.

Policy should be pitched to what is best for America. If that is protectionism, then protectionism is good for America. But Free Trade which has America at a disadvantage is bad for America.

Duncan Hunter is for Fair Free trade, and will level the playing field so America is not hurt in the process. GATT has us on the ropes, and Duncan Hunter will bring manufacturing and good jobs back to America.

The WTO is part of the push to bring the country down. Anyone who takes exception to the above is in severe denial.
