“This whole notion that Conservativism HAS TO be Anti-GW is, frankly, stupid.”

Conservatism has to be on the side of truth, and the truth is that any conceivable human effect on gorebull worming can only be so miniscule as to be irrelevant.

For instance, the total amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is very small: for every one million molecules of air, only 370 of them are CO2 molecules, and it would take the entire human output five years to increase that to 380 molecules per million.

For conservatism not to waggle its weenie at gorebull worming would be for conservatism to side with bullcrap.

If, therefore, commitment to truth is indispensible to conservatism, conservatism must scorn notions of homogenic gorebull worming.

I use to think this was the best run site on the net but people are allowed to call the President every name in the book and attack those that do support him. I have never seen such uncivil behavior. They turn every thread into a nasty attack on the president over immigration no matter the real subject. This site is now not much better than Democratic underground and the so called conservatives on here act like the liberals they proclaim to hate.

"U.S. employers continue to hire amid sluggish economy"

That one is actually funny. Its patent illogic is right up there with the prisons-are-full-even-though-crime-rates-are-falling genre of headline.

On a more serious note, while I too am frustrated about George W. Bush's toxic policies on immigration and affirmative action quotas, when it comes to the economy he has been one of the best Presidents in my lifetime.

I am able to accept the good and bad in people at the same time and weigh them together to assimilate a composite opinion. Bush has plus and minuses. This article is an example of a plus. In his first term the pluses outweighed the minuses. However, unfortunately that hasn't been the case for his 2nd term. He is on suck spree lately.

I think that if we have high unemployment, high taxes and high interest and increased terrorist attacks the main topic might change.

Since they started raising the Fed Funds in July 2004, the 10 year yield is about the same, the 30 year about a half point lower. If it looks like inflation is rising, all rates will rise. If they boost the Fed Funds rate before higher inflation gets built into expectations, short rates could rise while long rates fall.

The Federal Reserve should keep the funds rate in line with a normal slope to the yield curve. Economic growth and government restraint should be used to control inflation. In other words, everybody on the FOMC should sit on their hands and shut up. If they keep manipulating the economy with interest rates, one day they'll have to invent a new word like stagflation to cover up their incompetence.

Other than that, I stand by what I said in my previous post.

Well said.

I have been very unhappy with the President lately, but the GLEE with which people bash him here is embarassing. That they all seem to be of a certain political stripe--Buchananite types who seem to think it is feasible to simply round up and remove 20 million people from the country--isn't a surprise, though--they gave us Clinton once, and seem determined to do it again.

Either the building boom wasn't as big as everybody thought or maybe there just weren't very many people working in those building trades. The loss of those jobs sure doesn't reflect in the numbers for some reason.
