There has been a sharp decline in contributions from RNC phone solicitations, another fired staffer said, reporting that many former donors flatly refuse to give more money to the national party if Mr. Bush and the Senate Republicans insist on supporting what these angry contributors call "amnesty" for illegal aliens. "Everyone donor in 50 states we reached has been angry, especially in the last month and a half, and for 99 percent of them immigration is the No. 1 issue," said the former employee.

I actually believe that a lot of those amnesty people won’t bother to vote because they don’t understand the “democratic process”. Those who do vote will go maybe 96-4 Democrat. I say 4 not because of error and illiteracy.

hear you. It’s painful to admit to my liberal friends: “You were right. George Bush IS a lousy President, and I, too want to see him impeached...”

I don't want to see impeachment or for him to resign. It would damage the office, as Nixon proved. I just want him to WAKE UP AND SMELL THE DAMN COFFEE, GEORGE!

The existing laws are just words on a piece of paper till Congress funds enforcement and that ain`t going to happen till a deal is cut.

So, by your and Tony Snow's tortured definition of "amnesty," it's being allowed to continue by a bunch of partisan political hacks, on both sides of the aisle and with George W. Bush at the head of the pack. But, somehow, it's us who are doing the allowing.

How positively Clintonian of you.

I just assume that the Mrs. Snows and Mrs. Barnes like their cheap house slaves, and will make life miserable on the Misters if they threaten their domestic arrangements.

Never have understood how insults persuade folks, but, I`m a proud idiot. When you have a moment, could you explain how not doing anything is helping reverse this problem.

While you are educating me, just how many illegals were turned back by the Tancredo Immigration Law of 2006? (oh, bet I`m going to get called another bad name, no answer though)

I just mailed back a contribution envelope. No money, but I did write them a note about building a fence on the border like we were promised.

The existing laws are just words on a piece of paper till Congress funds enforcement and that ain`t going to happen till a deal is cut. That the real world sports fans, In the mean time more will come and amnesty will continue.

Suppose someone owns a forest, and discover that people are stealing his trees. The guy he hired to guard the forest doesn't seem to want to do his job. He suggests to the owner, though, that he might be willing to do his job if the owner signs a document officially giving the people who are stealing trees the right to keep doing so.

Could any remotely sane owner agree to such a deal?

It's true that it may be impossible for the owner to take significant action against those who have stolen from him in the past, but that should in no way interfere with his ability to take action against those who steal from him in future. If he signs the paper, though, he'd be stuck. And his "guard" would be no more likely to do his job than he had been previously.

I would like someone to explain how this new bill would improve anything compared with the status quo.

Class III, (etc.)

What's the class rating on these? I haven't seen that before.

Finally! An issue the conservative base can agree and act upon!

Since Bill Clinton has been out of office, we have been, largely, issueless.

DubYah has brought us together. But not in the way he hoped for.

Let’s Roll!

First of all, this bill is dead. There will be no change in the situation till after the election although there is more fence in the pipe line and more BP agents. Those that are here will continue to enjoy their functional amnesty. Demigods on both sides will increase their fund raising and even more lines will be drawn in concrete. Oh,almost forgot, the number of illegals will increase. And Bush will be blamed.
Maybe the self appointed base will stay home, maybe they will realize their peril and the country`s, who knows? Putting bullets in feet seems to becoming popular.
We might get lucky and one of the Republican Candidates can figure out a solution people can understand and support. The rats won`t. But, the good thing is that we didn`t compromise.

Perhaps we're being too harsh on him? After all, he's probably making these decisions based on advice from super intelligent, best in their class, topnotch advisers.

Like, for instance, Harriet Myers.

Er, umm, oh, never mind.

” Finally! An issue the conservative base can agree and act upon! “

” Let’s Roll! “

I’m with you, taxman.

I haven’t been able to stay on this thread for the entire time, but I don’t think any of the first 1000 comments had to be removed by the Sidebar Moderators. I didn’t see any trolls while I was on. And only a couple of minor intraFReep knife-fights (you know who I’m talking about, neverhillorat. Still luv ya.). Defliberation Laser Transmogrifier not set to Spork-weasel today.

Everyone was remarkably well behaved. I guess the value of adult supervision is overrated.

What a hoot! Let’s see whether Republican politicians are true to their base, or they pursue some will-o’-the-wisp illegal vote.
