Tropical Storm Barbara forms off Mexico
Associated Press via Yahoo ^ | 30 May 2007 | AP

MEXICO CITY - Tropical Storm Barbara formed Wednesday off the southwestern coast of Mexico and could strengthen to a hurricane within days, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Barbara follows Alvin, the first tropical storm of the eastern Pacific's 2007 season. It formed Monday but was downgraded to a tropical depression as it headed away from land. Two eastern Pacific storms in May is unprecedented — the hurricane center has named only two May storms in the past, in 1984 and 1956.

Barbara was 118 miles south-southwest of the Mexican fishing village of Puerto Angel, and was nearly stationary with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. The hurricane center said people on the western coasts of Mexico and Guatemala should keep close watch

11 PM Central Florida news shows storm crossing Florida from West to East, potentially an I-4 storm track. We sure need the rain, though.

The Weather Channel will be ‘rooting’ for a devastating Hurricane so they can continue with the Man-made Global Warming pap.

OK, the in-depth forecast has a low forming off the Yucatan and coming our way, not necessarily TS Barbara, which they did not mention. It is that low that should be here by the weekend. A low without the tropical features is what we need.

The Weather Channel gave worthless 4-hour out of date "updates" in 2001 during Allison when Houston got flooded.

They can't get the job done and lost my trust long ago.

Oh good, maybe this storm will provide the rain that will shut the fox news whiners and others up about the stupid drought in Florida.(I know its on the wrong side of Mexico, but bear with me here)
I swear, first they complain about the hurricanes. Okay, so no hurricanes for a year, then they whine about the okechokiefanokie swamp is low on water because of no hurricanes. Geez people, we have to have some variety in the weather!!! As my Dad used to say, “ hang you with a gold rope and you would still complain”
Go figure!

Well then it is precidented.

It will be interesting to see how they make a 1956 and 1984 storm President Bush's fault.

Yeah, search "typhoon" and see what you find though... http://www.arch.nus.edu.sg/SOA/design_studio/rda/group4/JL/Typhoonchart.html

wow, there was one in APRIL and NINE in MAY, way back in the '40s and '50s! I wonder why AP doesn't mention those. /s

The Weather Channel became obsolete when the first weather-related website started.

“As my Dad used to say, “ hang you with a gold rope and you would still complain”

Except that if you hung me with a gold rope, I think I would have every right to complain. Are you sure you understand your Dads saying? It is ironic and doesn’t really apply in this case.

“11 PM Central Florida news shows storm crossing Florida from West to East, potentially an I-4 storm track. “

Trust me. This storm isn’t going to go anywhere near Florida.

Trust me. This storm isn’t going to go anywhere near Florida.

There is also a disturbance in the Western Caribbean that could develop into a depression within a couple of days. Perhaps that is what they were talking about.

I can’t watch that channel anymore. They’ve gone into full Goebbels mode regarding GW.

Tropical Cyclones in the North Pacific that are East of the International date line are “Hurricanes”. West of the International Date line, the are called “Typhoons”.

In the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean they are called “Cyclones” or “Tropical Cyclones”.

Your chart is probably for storms west of the International Date line.
