An e-mailer asks: "Is this the first time the number of total viewers for the CBS Evening News has fallen below 6 million?"
Yes. For the week of May 21, Katie Couric averaged 5,960,000 viewers.
Couric's previous low, 6,050,000, came at the start of the May sweep. It was, at the time, the smallest audience for the Evening News in decades.
Last week is the new record low. For the week, CBS is down 15 percent compared to the same week in 2006...
I wonder why people don’t like to listen to her...
What a shame.
That’s a shame.
She could try not talking.
I bet they would get more people tuning in to watch her inexplicably staring at the camera in silence.
Maybe if they were to put a liberal spin on things, people would tune in, in droves? Perhaps just up the anti-American, Democratic and anti-war spiel? < /sarcasm>
Liberal Radio failed miserably, but conservative talk shows dominate. Conservative programs don’t require a cash flow to keep them going, they generate revenue.
Fox USED to understand this, but sadly they are drinking the same Kool-aide that their competition is selling. As amazing as it sounds, I don’t think that the news stations or journalists in general have a clue of who America is.
Just goes to show you that such an expensive anchor can sure drag down ratings...hee,hee,hee,hee,hee!

Oddly, is also coincides with the same number of people whose remote controls that need batteries replaced.
bummer...perhaps we need a government grant to prop her up?
It's a good news day all around.
Maybe she should show us her COLON again-Ya think THAT would help??.
My cat kinda does that when she is petted, but when my cat does it, it's cute and perky.
If The Anchor were to do it, it would just be sad and desperate.
I agree with one exception: Liberal radio is still alive. It’s called NPR.
Courage Katie, Courage.
Actually, that's the exact number of folks who leave the TV on while they're gone - just to keep the cat company.
And the poor souls can't figure out why their cat claws the drapes...
I don’t watch because I am intimidated by strong women.
One bright spot in a dreadful day.
Keep up the good work Katie!
I wonder if the audience tends to be somewhat aged, based on the ads for Depends, and other mature adult needs.
Imagine for a moment Rush Limbaugh became the anchor for CBS. Wonder what the ratings would be?
