I can't believe we still have people whining about 2006. But more importantly, I can't believe that some people seem incapable of learning even some of the most obvious lessons.

So let's review:

1) Who is the biggest supporter of this bill? That's right - our own Republican President Bush.
2) How many Republican Senators have stood up and said they will do what it takes to stop this bill? That's right - ZERO. In fact, they, along with the President, are calling conservatives ignorant bigots for objecting to the bill.

Now, I want you to think very carefully about the wisdom of returning these same people over and over again to office. The Republican Party is no longer any more conservative than the Democrats. There are, indeed, conservatives in the Republican party, but apparently they are held in low esteem by the party elites. The end result is that voting Republican, in this instance at least, would change virtually nothing, and might even have the negative effect of rewarding liberal behavior in Republicans by returning them to office despite their bad behavior. The only way to save the Republican Party, if it can be saved, is to purge the RINO office holders.

People staying home did not cost Republican seats. Republicans didn’t get the job done. I held my nose but others weren’t buying what was being sold. Take away any cheat % and the election went as it was designed. I’m really concerned because instead of fixing the problem for the last 3 years all I still see is “whose fault it is”. You might have stayed home but conservatives did not, they voted. Unfortunately for Republicans, Independents turned against them in droves.

It is tiresome to keep reading this BS that conservatives did not vote for conservative candidates. Not once has anyone showed that this happened nationally.

It is true that many conservatives will no longer vote for liberals, even if they're Republican, but this is not to teach anyone a lesson, it is merely being true to ones principles, something the Republican party might think about doing.

Living in Massachusetts means that I do not have the luxury of not voting for a Republican for just about anything.

I have lose-lose before me every time that I go to vote.

I think that it is time to hold our noses, vote out the bastards, let the chips fall where they may, and immediately after commence with the clean up. It may sting for a bit, but things can get better if we all agree to rid ourselves of the real problem first.

I held my nose and voted a straight Republican ballot but I still didn't vote against my Democrat Rep because he was running unopposed in a red district in a red state. I wonder how many other house seats were lost by default in red states and red districts. Probably as many as were lost because somebody stayed home.

Watch TV much? Apparently not, so I'll give you a little hint - many of those same Republicans you think would have stopped this bill are either supporting it or would have supported it, and many "Republican" Senators are supporting this, including some who are running for the GOP Presidential nomination.

Remember when Bush started referring to the criminal illegals as "guest workers"? Remember when Bush called the citizens who were trying to help the Border Patrol "vigilantes"? Here's another hint: It was before 2006. Bush has wanted this for a long time, and some have made a solid case for it going back to his gubernatorial days.

Here's the true story of 2006: 2006 should have been a lesson to the GOP and the White House to get their act together. Instead, we have a Republican President attacking other Republicans because they oppose amnesty, something any right-thinking Republican would do. We have Republican Senators and Representatives not only supporting amnesty, but bragging about it publicly and/or skirmishing with other Republicans about who should get credit for it.

All 2006 did was reinforce the GOP moving to the left. If we continue to vote for liberal Republicans, simply to keep Republicans in office, then we are doing nothing but approving of their liberal beliefs. In other words, we reward their liberal moves with our votes if we support them.

Once and for all: The party faithful stayed home because the Republicans acted poorly. Were Dems a better choice? Of course not.

Stop blaming voters: In lieu of a real conservative third choice the voters did what the system was designed to do: They threw the bums out. Instead of blaming voters it would better serve people to write their reps and remind them that what happened to their limp-wristed comrades in ‘06 could happen to them. Threaten to take away their access to posh Washington parties, page boys and drugs and see how fast they lean back to the right.
