A man diagnosed with a rare strain of tuberculosis will be flown to Denver for treatment at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center.
This morning, officials at Denvers National Jewish Medical and Research Center werent sure when the now world-famous TB patient would arrive for treatment.
"I think theyre still figuring out how hes going to get here," said hospital spokesman William Allstetter. The unidentified patient was transferred from New York to Atlanta on a CDC airplane.
Allstetter stressed that National Jewish, which is world renown for treatment of respiratory and immune disorders, is well-prepared to handle the case.
"We treat about a half dozen very drug-resistant TB cases a year," Allstetter said. "The doctors know how to take care and isolate people and weve never had any trouble with people contracting that disease (from a TB patient like the Atlanta-area man)."
The patient will be treated in a isolation ward thats specially pressurized so air only flows into that the room, he said. Air within the room is pumped through a filter where ultra violet light kills any airborne bacteria.

He flew to Montreal because, after numerous contacts with CDC, he knew he’d be taken into custody if he flew into a U.S. airport. So he flew to Montreal, rented a car, drove across the border where they weren’t especially looking for him, and drove to New York. Makes sense to me. But I would like to know who he is, if he is an immigrant, and what his passport says about his trip. From what I’ve heard so far, he is a selfish little s**t who didn’t give a damn about infecting countless numbers of his fellow human beings with a deadly disease. Needs to be outed.
If some think that health care is expensive now, wait until it is free !
( I forgot the author )
Imagine a few infected jihadis and the havoc they could cause if they decided to try such a thing...
One can hardly blame him for thinking he wasn’t dangerous, since the CDC showed no interest in putting him in quarantine until they found out he was in Europe. Why does he suddenly need to be in quarantine, when before his honeymoon he was free to roam around the US, get into cars and public transport vehicles with other people, sit next to strangers in movie theaters, etc., all while the CDC knew full well what he had?
Apparently it is often imported by sick Russians from Siberia.
( So much for their ‘free’ health care )
He could have gotten married anywhere.
From the hotel workers in Greece to fellow airline passengers, etc. now all have to be checked ?
Sneaking across the border was lovely.

Man With Drug-Resistant TB Locked Up
I read another story about this same form of TB and it's really horrible.
I wonder how he got across the border.
Shouldnt his girlfriend be locked up too?
I was thinking myself, that this was intentional. Probably get flamed for it, but sending infected persons is an easier way to spread a bio weapon than other methods of dispersal, especially in a confined long term situation like that.
He should be tried for attempted murder.
He rented a car.
No apparent reports of visa / passport issues ?
I wonder if they are all being sensitive to the HIPAA regulation fear. I think they can get away with outing him based on his travels if they find out who had the particular itinerary that the CDC revealed. But they will have a hard time with medical personnel revealing names of high profile patients. Who knows!
Is this person a US citizen? If not, why are we paying for all this treatment and transportation for him - why not just deport him? Just asking.
But the fact that we let this guy get on a plane and later cross over the border is probably telling the bad guys plenty.
That's a very good question, especially since we may have had more legal recourse available if we were dealing with someone who was here illegally.
Good questions.
We have not seen any reports of his name, citizenship, etc. yet.
If he is illegal he will get the best of care.......for free. And drug resistant TB is NOT cheap to treat. We are already doing it for other illegals.
Let me look for an article.
Do you think that this was another government screw-up to let him run around before the wedding ?
and then panic after the wedding ?
Are there medical reasons that he was ‘good to go’ last week but not this week ?

That would be of small comfort to those infected. I’ve heard its a 50% fatality rate.
