Cindy Sheehan, the so-called "Peace Mom" who gained national attention protesting President Bush's Iraq war policy by remaining camped in a ditch near his Crawford, Texas, ranch, has issued a resignation letter as the face of the American anti-war movement.
"Good-bye America," Sheehan writes in her online diary, "you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can't make you be that country unless you want it."
Sheehan says she came to her "heartbreaking conclusions" this Memorial Day morning, saying, "These are not spur of the moment reflections, but things I have been meditating on for about a year now." I have endured a lot of smear and hatred since Casey was killed and especially since I became the so-called "Face" of the American anti-war movement. Especially since I renounced any tie I have remaining with the Democratic Party, I have been further trashed on such "liberal blogs" as the Democratic Underground. Being called an "attention whore" and being told "good riddance" are some of the more milder rebukes.
Sheehan's son, Casey, was among the American casualties in Iraq, and Mrs. Sheehan, as WND exclusively reported, referred to the terrorists fighting U.S. troops as "freedom fighters."
In today's resignation, lamented that little has been accomplished in her efforts:
I have also reached the conclusion that if I am doing what I am doing because I am an "attention whore" then I really need to be committed. I have invested everything I have into trying to bring peace with justice to a country that wants neither. If an individual wants both, then normally he/she is not willing to do more than walk in a protest march or sit behind his/her computer criticizing others. I have spent every available cent I got from the money a "grateful" country gave me when they killed my son and every penny that I have received in speaking or book fees since then. I have sacrificed a 29 year marriage and have traveled for extended periods of time away from Casey's brother and sisters and my health has suffered and my hospital bills from last summer (when I almost died) are in collection because I have used all my energy trying to stop this country from slaughtering innocent human beings. I have been called every despicable name that small minds can think of and have had my life threatened many times.
The most devastating conclusion that I reached this morning, however, was that Casey did indeed die for nothing. His precious lifeblood drained out in a country far away from his family who loves him, killed by his own country which is beholden to and run by a war machine that even controls what we think. I have tried every since he died to make his sacrifice meaningful. Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives. It is so painful to me to know that I bought into this system for so many years and Casey paid the price for that allegiance. I failed my boy and that hurts the most.
PING!
Perhaps she will stop wasting oxygen and do the whole world a large favor.
I quit!"
snicker...I pray she has a plate of bad clams for dinner tonight.
Y'know, I was thinking about Cindy yesterday when her pal Hugo Chavez shut down a television network that was too critical of him. Stupid witch doesn't even realize the difference between a vibrant, diverse, free media and full-on freakin' fascism.
To paraphrase Lee Iacocca:
(Especially since I renounced any tie I have remaining with the Democratic Party, I have been further trashed on such “liberal blogs” as the Democratic Underground. )
Wow, she just realized that she was being used by the Democrat party! It must have been a rude awakening indeed to be ditched by her so-called “friends”. I have nothing but pity for her, as I believe she truly is mentally disturbed and was used by the anti-American left who don’t give a damn about her or her son.
Get over it... don't go away mad, just go away.
I have used all my energy trying to stop this country from slaughtering innocent human beings Cindy says...
The pro life Movement maybe is your answer... We can always use more volunteers and it is a lot worse killing than WAR!
You know for just a moment, I thought I was reading another opus from the FR Bug Zapper thread.
But I would never call Cindy Sheewhine an ‘attention whore’, when in fact she is actually a *pimp*, because she’s been pimping Casey’s memory and honor for her own demented America-hating agenda for WAY too long.
I’d say if she can manage to just STFU and stay out of the media spotlight for 6 months, she MIGHT be telling the truth here about ‘quiting’.
Not holding my breath.
I'm hoping she leaves, and never returns.
Mrs. Sheehan, your biggest mistake in all this has been to think that you needed to do something to make your son’s sacrifice “meaningful”. By volunteering to return to Iraq to fight for something he believed in, Casey made his own sacrifice meaningful. All you have succeeded in doing is dishonoring his memory and his service.
If you truely believe he died for nothing, you have branded him a failure. You have left him to a fate worse than dying. I hope you can live with that. I don’t think I could.
She should've sought counselling after the loss of her son. Instead she turned her back on her family and palled it up with socialist propagandists who used her as a poster child for a campaign against President Bush.
Rather than deal with her loss, she permitted herself to be exploited by those who did not have her best interests at heart.
She should be committed and maybe in a few years, released.
“doesn’t have a right to commit treason or aid our enemies”. ————————Oh, but she does, and has already taken that right and run with it. So far no one dares charge her with treason, and no one ever will. She knows what she can get away with and has already gotten away with it, showboating around with idiot icons like Jesse and Hugo. That final sentence I wrote was the least significant thing I said, though. Thinking of Cindy Sheehan, always put me in mind of the story of Mary Beth Whitehead, and the Baby M case of years ago here in New Jersey. I was halfway on Mary Beth’s side until I saw the excellent TV movie about the case, which did not pull punches as to the complexities of the case and its cast of characters/ It showed how Mary Beth’s terrible relationship with her ne’er-do-well actual husband, who she didn’t want to have another child with, actually pushed her over the edge into the radical act of deciding to keep the baby she was carrying as a surrogate mother for the Sterns. I suspect there’s a backstory of the same sort there for Cindy Sheehan, and her opportunistic decision to play it for all it’s worth, in order to finally validate her role as the caring mother she was never able to be in Casey’s lifetime/
Just my own instincts.

How utterly sickening and disgusting.
No, Ms. Ali-Shehan, Casey did not die for nothing. He died in a cause he believed in and was so committed to that he was willing to sacrifice his life for. He did it to keep animal murders away from our shores, tieing them up in that foriegn land so they cannot come here...so he did it for you and me, and all Americans.
He also did it for a bunch of people who are dieing by the thousands in Iraq fighting the same enemies, whose bravery and purple fingers puts the lie and shame to everything you have been trying to do.
What an utter, disgusting, and pathetic epitath you are for your own son...except you are not his epithath...only your own.
Well, she probably got that statement correct, especially if Amnesty passes.
Bump.
