CARACAS, Venezuela - National Guard troops fired tear gas and rubber bullets Monday into a crowd of protesters angry over a decision by President Hugo Chavez that forced a critical television station off the air.
University students blocked one lane of a major highway hours after Radio Caracas Television ceased broadcasting at midnight and was replaced with a new state-funded channel. Chavez had refused to renew RCTV's broadcast license, accusing it of "subversive" activities and of backing a 2002 coup against him.
Two students were injured by rubber bullets and a third was hit with a tear gas canister, said Ana Teresa Yepez, an administrator at Caracas' Metropolitan University. She said about 20 protesters were treated for inhaling tear gas.

Full metal jackets next time.
Hope the crowd didn’t inconvenience Danny Glover.
Ummmmm something like the Cuban military did? No, wait.
Dictators always cozy up to the military and treat them well. Did Chavez declare himself President for life yet? If not the PEOPLE might have another chance...but I doubt it.
When the bodies begin rotting? Naaah, when they can’t get their favorite soap operas.
Couldn't agree with you more. It's a pretty short trip from here to Waco though.
Cindy Sheegoat is expected to make a statement soon, exonerating Chavez of all wrongdoing and putting the blame squarely where it belongs: on George W Bush.
It looks like Glover’s insides are on the outside in that picture...
"Fired upon" implies LIVE ammunition and shooting to kill.
Prayers for the people of Venezuela as they confront the tyrant.
Reword it so it is palatable to the public and the DNC with Howard Dean as a spokesperson will guarantee a focus on making it happen.
I have been to Caracas three times.
I will quit my job rather than go again.
wow and the left proclaims Chavez their hero... This is what the liberals want for America too...
A couple of days ago protesters were marching under a banner that chavistas put up that said "Chávez garantiza la libertad de expresión" (Chávez guarantees the freedom of expression). Like any communist, Chávez defines right as wrong and slavery as freedom.
I’m sure Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young will be reuniting to record a protest song about this outrage any minute now.
And those fools in MSM and the entertainment industry who support this monster would be among those being fired upon if it happened here. They have no idea, they are so arrogant they think it wouldn’t happen to them.
Don’t you just know that Pelosi, Reid, etc. would love to do this to Fox News?
But it would probably have to wait until after they arrest Rush Limbaugh.
They are already trying it... Bit by Bit... Step by Step.
Read the Uniform Child Abduction Prevention Act that they are trying to pass in the fifty states this year and next.
People are ‘guilty until proven innocent’.
A ‘risk factor’ is enough to trigger the act.
‘risk factors’ are as mundane as obtaining your child’s school records; obtaining your child’s medical records; selling a house; closing a lease; closing a bank account; having family relatives in another state; having cultural or emotional ties to another state.
They are already here.
Crosby, Pills, Hash & Bong broke up a long time ago, if memory serves correct.
No, this is not a brand new refrigerator. This is the meat display at the supermarket I go to. This is a daily occurrence as they have not had meat for quite a while, as a matter of fact since at least April 20th. they have received meat twice, both times selling it in less than two hours. This had never happened in the country's history, but between land being taken over and left unused and price controls, supply has simply disappeared. There you have it, a true, real accomplishment by the revolution!
Ironically, below the fridge is a row of dog food bags, some of the imported. No comments!
