BAGHDAD - U.S. and Iraqi troops raided Sadr City on Sunday, targeting Shiite insurgent cells in the Baghdad slum for a second day, while British forces stepped up pressure on Shiite militants in the southern city of Basra.
Meanwhile, in Kut, 100 miles southeast of Baghdad, 70 police officers resigned Sunday morning and handed over their weapons. Police said they cited their fears of being targeted by anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army militants.

Rudyard Kipling warned against trying to "hustle the East." These people know each other intimately and you're not going to fool them about anything. Better to be the "strong horse," draw firm lines in the sand, back up your words with actions reliably and decisively. If we do that, and forgo the precious western conceit of trying to wage war while dancing between the raindrops, they'll fall in line.
The conflict in Iraq is more than about oil and internal Iraq politics....why is it so difficult for people to understand that? Cetainly oil and Iraqi politics are challeges we do face...but the whole issue of Iraq has always ben far broader and deeper than just what is goin on there, exclusive of the rest of the Middle East. EVERYTHING in the Middle East is connected and affected by what happens in Iraq...it’s the whole reason we are there to begin with. Iraq is a strategic pawn in a very long term high stakes Middle East chesss match....
Powell was just got a good fit in any way, I think he’d be the first to admit that.
Dead on correct. These people are total gossip and rumor machines. Trying to hide our involvement in Sadr’s death will work against us. Better to speak a language that they actually understand and will respond to... Total force and mass death. Its the only thing the really understand.
I think the current situation is more like what we had in the years AFTER WWII reconstructing Germany and Japan. But you're still right, we would have arrested, tried and dealt with troublemakers like that very quickly.
We need a Farsi-speaking dead-ringer for Mookie, script him out for a YouTube appearance in which he denounces Islam as a death cult, states that Jesus Christ is ‘The Way, the Truth and the Life’, and urges his fellow Muslims to have a ‘come to Jesus moment’.
Pass on a copy to al-Jazeera.
Mookie be dead inside o’ 30 days.
I don’t want my grandkids looking over their shoulder waiting for death. The world is becoming more dangerous as people learn more effective ways to kill. It will only be a matter of time until a tiny biological weapon could wipe out the US... that makes today’s suicide bombers seem trivial. Isolationism is not the answer.
BTW we would have energy independence if the dum dems would let us go get it and refine it.
Mooki needs to die.
Thanks, that is what I was talking about. Looks like the Mookster is not a big enough fish to warrant his own market. Something for the pudgy little raghead to aspire too I guess.
Either that or have the Mook-a-like seen screwing a pig.
Or perhaps even more offensive, substitute a look-alike of Ahamdinejad.
I like it, a two-fer.
