Man, it’d suck to be on that plane, but 1 out on a 747 isn’t a dire emergency. Probably just Yawing a bit. Likely very experienced pilots as well. Lets hope it ends well.
One wonders why they don’t divert to Anchorage, or something.
Silliness.
A 747 can easily fly on two engines. A single engine loss is an inconvenience not a disaster.
Mr. Mew was in a 737 that anded with an engine out. Scared the snot out of the passengers, but the cockpit crew did a fine job landing the jet, and Mr. Mew said it was a smooth landing :)
It is if I'M the one on the plane! LOL
Prayers for all.
Bump and prayers
Still, not the plane ride that I’d want.
pathetic, they care more about the freaking enviroment than human lives!
You're going to learn more about aircraft configuration in the next 10 minutes than you ever wanted to know.
It shouldn’t be a big deal. It’s just a lot of fuel; about 220,000 lbs of jet fuel. That was the airplane I was suppose to fly home tommorow from Beijing. . . . I guess I’m just waiting for the crew desk to call . . . . at least we have internet here.
Also, wasn’t there a BA plane that lost an engine over the west coast and still continued on to JFK or Boston or something recently?
You're not the only one :)
Fox News showed a DC 10 with 2 engines for a minute and I was like holy crap.
However, those guys should know better....
No joke. Im thinking of asking the Mods to change the title to “MSNBC worried about environmental impact as plane dumps fuel on emergency landing”.
A Chinese airline got grounded in Germany, it had been flying revenue flights with one down for weeks.
When I was in the Air force I thought an aircraft losing an engine in flight was routine. At least most of the ones I flew on had it happen.
What is the big deal? Some British airline pilot recently decided to continue on to Britain on 3 engines from the USA. Lot of whooping over that, but the procedure was apparently OK.
Actually with three engines we are allowed to continue to our destination. Just not a great idea.
Not a big deal other than for MSM TV drama. Was on a 2 engine A320 when 1 engine went out. Plane landed just fine other than the brakes being burnt out as they couldn’t reverse the engines upon landing.
Well, I loathe flying. I'd rather have a simultaneous root canal and IRS audit than take a plane trip. So, IMHO, any plane ride I can walk away from is a good one :)
