JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Thursday that his opposition to same-sex marriage should not be interpreted as intolerance of gays, who served in his administration when he was Massachusetts governor.
In a brief interview with The Associated Press, Romney elaborated on comments he made during a campaign event dubbed "Ask Mitt Anything" in which an audience member questioned whether pastors should preach that homosexuality is a sin. Romney said the government shouldn't tell pastors what they can say.
Afterward, Romney said he would not preach the same message.
"I don't think that a person who's running for a secular position as I am should talk about or engage in discussions of what they in their personal faith or their personal beliefs is immoral or not immoral," the former governor said in the AP interview.
The logical conclusion anyone can draw is that he would have no problem supporting pro gay policies. The logical next step to coming out and saying you're not anti-gay is capitulating to the gay agenda because if you're not anti-gay, why would you discriminate?
Where’s that popcorn gif?
So, govern by poll like Bill Clinton?
No candidate is going to say he is anti-gay. I don’t see anything here, other than a normal response.
...not that there's anything wrong with that.
Great answer by Romney, totally hit it out of the park.
The audience member asked a loaded question, trying to bait Romney.
It is an AP set up piece.
They are plowing the field so to speak in order to clear a path for their favorite lefty, Rudy Guiliani.
The MSM and Drive bys are all aligned to make this a left wing candidate vs left wing candidate election.
For your PING list
"What you look for in a leader is someone who will welcome and treat with respect people who made different choices and have different beliefs in their lives and have differences. I have nothing but respect and feelings of tolerance for people with differences from myself and feel that way with regards to those who are gay," he said.
Respectable for their different choices. Kumbaya!
And this is why Romney (is my and should be the Republican party’s Anti-Christ figure candidate), he is stealthy about his personal beliefs (and when he does take them that he says can not affect public policy he takes the ‘slick’ approach: Including flip-flopping)! He should be the snake-oil sales man to many. There is something about him. Christians beware, Mitt Romney is not truely represenatative of YOUR beliefs..
Well, then it must mean he is pro-gay sex! Why is it so hard for politicians to stand up and have some friggin principles instead of parsing everything that's said?
Is he against gay sex or not?

None of the Republicans are going to say that they hate gays, nor will they say that they support their agenda. I think Romney gave a general answer and denied the AP a quote to use to attack him with later, that's all.
Guess what? I’m a conservative and I’m not anti-gay either. In fact, I have quite a few gay friends. I don’t agree with their lifestyle at all and I support a federal marriage amendment, but I don’t treat them any differently than my straight friends. Holding that viewpoint does not mean I advocate their lifestyle...it means I don’t treat them like second-class citizens.
I don’t see anything wrong with what Romney said.
OK then. Cross him off the list.
Furthermore, is he against protected gay sex, unprotected gay sex or both?
In addition, what is his position on an*l beads?
"Beads the heck out of me!!!!"
I have friends and family that are gay.
I am a staunch supporter of old fashioned standards, and my gay acquaintances know how I feel and respect my beliefs.
I do not support gay marriage. But being a Christian, I can not hate my friends for their lifestyle. They are kind people. Nor can I hate my relative. He is a good person.
I honestly belive that Mitt Romney is a good person with a good heart, and if it came right down to it, I would vote for him in the general election. Needless to say, I am often conflicted when this topic comes up.
So I can understand how Romney would take this position. He’s a politician, and he has to govern for all Americans.
And if I’m correct in what I’ve learned about the Mormon religion, it’s typical to allow each person to choose their own path. And to encourage them to pray for guidance.
So feel free to flame away. This is one subject that I myself pray for guidance on.
At least he likes the 1st amendment, unlike McCain.
