Pez
- In 1927, Eduard Haas, an Austrian candy executive, developed a small candy mint which he called PEZ (short for pfefferminz, the German word for peppermint). The peppermint candies were stored in a small tin and sold fairly well for more than 20 years. Initially it was marketed as a tasty alternative to cigarettes for adults attempting to quit smoking.
In an effort to boost sales and develop a brand identity for the PEZ mints, the first pez dispensers were introduced in 1948. The original dispensers did not have the trademark heads, which were introduced four years later. These dispensers had cartoon heads and became very popular with children who traded them back and forth. These early dispensers are now very much in demand and are valued treasures among collectors.
More than 3 billion PEZ candies are consumed each year and is sold in more than 60 countries around the world but the candies have become almost a secondary item serving as an accessory for the dispensers of which more than 300 have been issued.

Those temps look like Texas in July and August. I don’t like to think about that yet, but I know it’s on the way.
We’ll see..The rain clouds seem to just miss me when they are “scattered”. We did get almost 2 inches the other night..One county nearby(Bell?)got 10 inches..and that’s too much!
Then we'll all be looking forward to October. LOL
July and August bring 120 to 125 degrees here. (Sometimes hotter.) Fortunately, I get to escape to cooler climes briefly in August for leave.
Too early to start counting the days yet...*sigh*

I’m going be off tomorrow and next Tuesday and I’m going to use that opportunity to do a few things on my “to do” list.
But, I’ll be checking in first thing in the mornings.

Yeah, and I have friends in Bell county. There were like 15 people who had to be rescued from high water. They got to a low water crossing and stopped headed back home.
By the time they got turned around and headed back, the creek they had crossed earlier was across the road and still rising. Some had to be rescued by Starflight helicopter.

COOKING WITH THE CANTEEN
Rhubarb Cheesecake Bars
Creamy rhubarb filling is flanked top and bottom by a caramel-like crumbly mixture. Yum!
Prep Time:20 min
Start to Finish:4 hr 40 min
Makes:5 dozen bars
2 1/2 cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
2 cups quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
3 eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups chopped fresh rhubarb
1. Heat oven to 350°. Grease bottom and sides of jelly roll pan, 15 1/2x10 1/2x1 inch, with shortening, or spray with cooking spray. Beat flour, oats, brown sugar, butter, salt and baking soda in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until crumbly, or mix with spoon. Press about 4 cups of the mixture in pan.
2. Beat remaining ingredients except rhubarb in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until blended. Stir in rhubarb. Spread over crust. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture; press lightly.
3. Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until center is set; cool 30 minutes. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours but no longer than 48 hours. For bars, cut into 10 rows by 6 rows. Store covered in refrigerator.

Yes, today has been quiet and yesterday was quieter than it has been.
We got to watch an awesome firefight downtown yesterday from the top of one of the ministry buildings I have to visit frequently. No good guys hurt...five bad guys...gone. And we WATCHED it!
