NEW YORK CITY -- Kenneth Eng, the author of a controversial AsianWeek column that described reasons to "hate" black people, is being held in a New York jail without bail on assault and harassment charges.
Eng, 23, was arrested on suspicion of threatening to kill his Queens neighbors and one of their pets. He was arraigned May 11 on charges of attempted assault, menacing, possession of a weapon and harassment.
Eng allegedly approached the mother and daughter as they stood in their driveway with their pet and said, "If your dog bites me, I will kill you and your family." He then called the mother fat and lazy and swung a hammer at her and the dog, according to the Queens district attorney's office.
Eng used to be a regular contributor to San Francisco-based AsianWeek, writing from New York. He was fired in February after public outcry over his racist and discriminatory columns. In his writings, Eng called himself an "Asian supremacist" and listed reasons to hate black people as well as Asians and whites.
Eng's attorney has asked that he undergo a mental examination. He is scheduled to return to court in Queens on June 13.

Asian paper's "I Hate Blacks" column assailed
The guy sounds as nutty as a fruitcake.
23 years old? Was he planning to get a graduate degree?
Just what I thought! There must be some kind of federal plot against him, because we know that Liberals are always tolerant of others.
The guy has ‘anger issues’ written all over him.
Wow, I live in Queens, Long Island city. Something that always fascinated me was this hate relationship between blacks and asians, I never understood it. I remember the blacks protesting that Korean deli in Brooklyn about ten years ago and I could never understand what for, it`s very bizarre.
I think the asians have this prejudice of blacks stealing from them, so when a black enters their store the asians get all paranoid and over-react and the blacks get ticked off, and I assume the LA riots didn`t help as well.
One episode that stands out in my mind was this Chinese take out a block from where I live, and one night walking home from work I saw this black guy bashing their front window with his fist, it looked like he was going to break it. So I went up to him “Yo yo, calm down, what the hell you doing?” And he told me they wouldn`t let him in, that they locked the doors. So I told him they closed at 11pm ( I think it was 10:30pm) and he calmed down. But really, what is with this black/asian war? Is there some asian war with blacks I`m not aware of?
Yes, I remember, there was a LOT of anger and violence between blacks and Korean grocery store owners back then. I think Al Sharpton got involved in that one, too.
What do you think a good slogan for an Asian supremacist would be? I have seen white skinheads shout white power, Black Panthers hold their fists in the air and shout Black power. But I am at a loss to what an Asian supremacist would shout.
We will kill your pets?
The man has some issues..
If the pet is a dog, I think Eng was angry and HUNGRY.
Incredible isn`t it? I`ve seen it first hand, a black walks into a Korean deli and the Koreans basically go into seizures, telling their illegal Mexican hires to watch him like a hawk, as if he is going to rip them off from top to bottom.
It seems to me I would side more with the blacks on this issue as the Koreans seem to have this extreme prejudice, they just go nuts when a black enters their store and I`m very fascinated as to why? How did this all start? Are they told this in Korea that blacks will rip them off? Was it the LA riots that freaked them out?
“Was it the LA riots that freaked them out?”
The LA riots were in one sense a pogrom against the Korean newcomers. (Their stores and businesses were wrecked, and many of them were small immigrant businesses that didn’t have insurance for riot damage.) When some Koreans held a demonstration at city hall, the (mostly-black) city workers there dumped garbage from the windows on them. The (black) mayor of LA refused to meet with Korean delegations. Blacks in some places forcibly prevented Korean-owned contractor crews from repairing some of the damage.
IOW, the LA city government treated the Koreans like less than full citizens.
All this was carried in HUGE stories in Korea newspapers with flaming headlines and lots of pictures of Koreans being victims of rioters.
An added difference: the Koreans have no guilt over slavery or segregation.
That the Asians become so successful so quickly, must generate jealousy and resentment for making others who have been here for hundreds of years look bad.
