"My only explanation is that it is medically related in some way," Migden, 56, said in an interview with The Chronicle.
The Democratic lawmaker who represents San Francisco and Marin County said she plans to underdo neurological tests to try to determine what may have happened.
"I owe an explanation to the public and myself and, in particular, the person I hurt,'' she said, referring to the driver of a Honda sedan who was slightly injured in a rear-end collision. "I don't have a recollection of what happened. I can only conclude I had a medical event I can't explain. It's not an excuse; it may be an explanation."
Migden said she was diagnosed with leukemia in 1997 and could not find a match for a bone marrow transplant. She said medications that she took after her diagnosis caused her to lose her hair but not her will to fight the disease.
In February her doctors at UCSF told her she was disease free, but she still takes six chemotherapy pills a day. She chose not to make her medical condition public.

Me too. “Decade-long battle” but nobody knew about it? One thing that’s always true about liberals is their propensity to play the victim card at the drop of a hat. You mean to tell me she’s been a cancer victim for a decade and not once tried to use it to play the victim card? I doubt it.
Maybe she can stay out of rehab with this excuse.
Seeing her cell phone records would be interesting too. Then ask whoever she was talking to if she seemed disoriented, and if so, why didn’t they call for help knowing their friend/associate was compromised and driving? Or did she seem just fine? Would be an interesting avenue to investigate.
All of this is true ... But! But! Ted did not know how deep the water was under that bridge.
Driving while impaired is still driving while impaired. Cry me a river otherwise.
I dunno, but it comes with an olive.
Uh-oh, the ol’ BS detector went off.
No kiddin’.
Not only that, but she’s been taking chemo drugs for 10 yrs and it took that long for them to cause her to have blackouts?
I just can’t buy that one.
This will sound ice cold of me, but I’ll say it.
She’s a California Democrat, so I KNOW she’s lying through her ass.
Wholly crap.
But a trick none the less.
ooohhhhh...dont mind that..that was just our first pass at our version of the truth.
Straight out of the Kennedy playbook.
She should also not be behind the wheel of a car.
I hope she works out her medical problem. The state needs to pull her driving license. (Which may mean the state will hire her a driver???)
My husband is on oral, and two kinds of IV chemo. Has not effected his mental state at all.
Really, she’s a Democrat? I didn’t see that in the stor . . . oh wait, there it is, right there in the 12th paragraph.
Funny, when a “Republican Latino Activist” was involved in a DUI in Sacramento a couple months ago, that description was front and center in every story. Interesting.
Settling back with the popcorn.
I know what you mean. The needle on mine went clear across the red zone and through the side of the meter housing. Migden owes me a new one.
Migden said her accident Friday left her shaken and that she had not experienced the same type of disorientation before.
Same medication for some number of years and this is the very first time that it made her disoriented? SO CLOSE to a Get Out Of Jail Free card, then she compounds the thousand-to-one shot with a thousand-to-one shot in the other direction.
That said, it's California, she's a Democratic senator, so I say she still slips away in a cloud of confusion, so to speak.
