Path to national suicide (Pat Buchanan on Illegal Immigration)
World Net Daily ^ | May 22, 2007` | Patrick J. Buchanan

Posted on 05/21/2007 11:52:30 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

"At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected?

"I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."

So said Abe Lincoln to the Young Men's Lyceum in Springfield. Observing the Senate last week, and looking over the latest figures from the Census Bureau, America is now risking national suicide.

Last week, senators meeting in secret produced a bill to legalize our 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens. If a path to citizenship becomes law, nothing will stop the next invasion. As President Bush acknowledges, 6 million tried to breach our southern border in his first five years. One in 12 – 500,000 – had a criminal record.

According to the Census Bureau, from mid-2005 to mid-2006, the U.S. minority population rose 2.4 million, to exceed 100 million. Hispanics, 1 percent of the population in 1950, are now 14.4 percent. Their total number has soared 25 percent since 2000 alone. The Asian population has also grown by 25 percent since 2000.

The number of white kids of school age fell 4 percent, however. Half the children 5 and younger in the United States are now minorities.

What is happening to us? An immigrant invasion of the United States from the Third World, as America's white majority is no longer even reproducing itself. Since Roe v. Wade, America has aborted 45 million of her children. And Asia, Africa and Latin America have sent 45 million of their children to inherit the estate the aborted American children never saw. God is not mocked.

And white America is in flight.

In the 1990s, for the first time since the Spanish came, whites left California. Two million departed. From July 1, 2005, to July 1, 2006, 100,000 more packed up and headed back whence their fathers came. The "Anglo" population of the Golden State is down to 43 percent and falling fast. White folks are now a minority in Texas and New Mexico. In Arizona, Hispanics account for over half the population under 20.

The future is not in doubt. Why ought this be of concern?

First, while the black and Hispanic population combined is now 85 million – five times what it was in 1960 – half of all black and Hispanic kids drop out of high school. And the average math and reading scores of the half who graduate are at seventh-, eighth- or ninth-grade levels.

And the future is not so sanguine as it seemed 50 years ago. As I write in "State of Emergency":

"In 1960, 18 million black Americans, 10 percent of the nation, were not fully integrated into society, but they had been assimilated into our culture. They worshiped the same God, spoke the same language, had endured the same Depression and war, watched the same TV shows on the same four channels, laughed at the same comedians, went to the same movies, ate the same foods, read the same newspapers and went to schools where, even when segregated, we learned the same history and literature and shared the same holidays: Christmas, New Year's, Washington's Birthday, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Columbus Day. Segregation existed, but black folks were as American as apple pie, having lived in this land longer than almost every other group save the Native Americans.

"That cultural unity, that sense that we were one people, is gone."

Today's immigrants exceed in number anything any nation has ever known. They now come from cultures and countries whose people have never before been assimilated by any First World country. Not only is the Melting Pot broken, it is rejected by our elites. Minorities are urged to hold onto their own language, customs, traditions. Identity politics is in. And the largest cohort, Mexicans, comes from a country with a historic grievance and a claim on the territory they are entering.

Moreover, since the cultural revolution of the 1960s, we have been fighting one another over issues of race and ethnicity, history, heroes and holidays, morality and religion, right and wrong.

All over the Western world, multiethnic, multicultural countries are coming apart over language, ethnicity, history. The Soviet Union broke into 15 nations, Yugoslavia into half a dozen. Czechs and Slovaks divorced. Scots want separation from England. Catalans and Basques seek independence. Corsicans and Bretons want out of France. Northern Italians want to secede. Only immigrants who prefer Ottawa prevent Quebecois from breaking free of Canada.

As we see from the election battles in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Mexico, race and ethnicity are not receding as issues, but rising. In South Central Los Angeles, black and Hispanic gangs are at war over race and turf.

Addressing the Knights of Columbus in 1915, Theodore Roosevelt warned, "The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities."

In every way possible, Americans have said they do not want to take this risk with their country. Why, then, are our elites taking it?

As for economics, Marxist love to define things that way.

Haha! So economics is a "Marxist" science, huh? You're an idiot.

No. That's not what I said. Please don't put words in my mouth in your sad attempt at a straw man argument. These posts are easily viewed by anyone interested. So, it's really not too swift to claim someone said something he did not.

I said, "As for economics, Marxist love to define things that way."

In other words, Marxists love to look at the economic rationale of a situation rather than the moral or ethical perspective.

The fact that illegal immigrants are coming here for "economic" reasons, is no more a justification than it is for someone burglarizing your house.

If we are to survive, the rule of law, rather than economics must prevail.

As for your, "You're an idiot." comment... No offense taken. I consider the source.

There is big money in smuggling, because the opportunities here are worth that much to people. The only effective solution is to reduce or eliminate those opportunities for people who come here illegaly.

I agree this is needed. But, I still want that damned fence we've been promised and paid for.

So, in other words, economics is a Marxist science, since looking at things from an economic perspective is Marxist.

As for straw man arguments, I'm not "justifying" illegal immigration on economic grounds. I'm pointing out that no solution that ignores the economics of the situation will work. As long as there is an economic incentive to come here, illegals will continue to pour in, regardless of any barriers you try to set up. Only solutions that eliminate this economic incentive will work, and I suggest: eliminating welfare, health care, housing, and jobs for illegals. Effective in keeping illegals out and giving the ones already here incentive to self-deport.

And build a wall too. And strip green cards and citizenship from legal immigrants who employ illegal immigrants. Then deport them

Duncan Hunter may fill the bill better or at least as well as anyone of the Republican hopefuls in terms of “real” conservative principles. But he will never be the nominee.
The nominee will either be Romney or Giuliani. Hunter, Thompson, et. al. will likely fill the bottom half of a ticket. Now, to me, it looks like Romney, but, yes, indeed, almost ALL of them on the Republican side would be a huge improvement over anyone on the Dem side. At this point we just don’t want someone like Bush, who has allowed way too much in the name of his original role as ‘uniter, not divider’, a kind of tongue-in-cheek sealing of his fate that ANYONE in political life should have seen was self-defeating from the beginning.

This is simply unacceptable. The media should not be allowed to pick our next president!

Hunter needs our support now. If we bow to the likes of Romney we will be as sorry later as we are now about Bush!

Check out the article here from Human Events about the NAU. And get off your comfortable TV butt! TV is in the hands of the enemy. You should be able to see that by now.

Hunter is not dropping out. But many will if they are faced with Romney or worse Rudy.

If the republicans abandone their base then Hillary will be in the White House. And that's what the CFR wants.

“The media should not be allowed to pick our next President!”-—
well, no, but they doat least let it be known who they consider to be the chosen nominee of BOTH parties, considering that they are infinitely so much better organized than any grassroots movement has ever been , at least in my lifetime.
“Get off your comfortable TV Butt!”
Huh? It’s not me that’s letting anyone pick anything. I am not INFLUENCED by what I perceive to be the foregone conclusion of whoever it is that the media already seems to have anointed-—there just is, you have to admit , a certain inevitabilty to it/ If the media backs either Romney or Giuliani they will feel they’ve done their part to make this upcoming contest “fair and balanced”.

I understand what you are saying and that's why I called you a fatalist.

We stillhave the power of the vote. But it will be completely gone if we let them take it.

I tried to warn people about Bush in 2000 and then gave up in 2004 because all we had was Bush. But that route is fatal.

We need to discipline ourselves to ignore the pundits on TV and get out the message. If we just accept that we can't do anything about it then we will have given up

I won't go down without a fight!

I still love this country, what there is left of it.

I won’t go down without a fight either. I am in the middle of a real estate struggle in New Jersey to save a historic house lived in by a Continental Congressman in the mid 18th century, and many prominent local people since then including the land surveyor who laid out railroad lines to this town before the Civil War, and who the town was finally named after. I know about fights, because this is the Labors of Hercules: a developer got in under the radar, and now wants to demolish it and build 11 townhouses there. We work 24/7 with petitions and awareness building, etc. in addition to seeking funding from preservation agencies, because we may have as little as two months to get it all together. As of right now, we luckily have a lawyer who has found all kinds of discrepancies with the plans, and wants the whole thing brought back to our Zoning Board rather than the Planning Board. We won’t go down without a fight either. All I am suggesting by this, is that for Duncan Hunter to become the nominee you will need 50,000 groups like our own across the nation dedicated to his cause, just as we are dedicated to wresting this mansion (the house evolved into a mansion over the 19th century), from the grip of the developer who wants to tear it down. Where are you going to get those groups? Do you know how hard it is even for OUR little group not to get discouraged day by day and week by week as we continue to shell out our own money for this cause, which we MAY NOT WIN?

I have been asking the same question....i don’t have a pat answer for it....it’s either all politics or some unforseen goal.

I think that's the real undercurrent in this whole situation. The pols mouth platitudes as to why they're doing this, but everybody seems to know that what they're saying isn't the real reason...and they don't trust any of this an inch because they aren't being told the real reasons.

Compassion? Path to citizenship? Better life? BLAH! Nobody believes that government works that way, especially at warp speed under cover of darkness like they're trying to do with this bill. We all have our suspicions...but there are so many dirty motives behind all this that they have to remain unexpressed-- and that's why NO ONE trusts any of this.

“The bottom line is that the Reps want the bill for more cheap exploitable labor and the Dems want it for future voters to ensure that they become the permanent majority party. We are being sold down the river by the political elites while sowing the seeds of our own destruction.”

Thanks for the statistics, I had seen similar ones. Was this census info? Anyways, agreed with the above statement. I am trying to figure out if their are any other behind the scenes reasons to this madness but I guess it really boils down to power and greed.

American Catholic Bishops should be reminded of this.

The problem can easily be solved. Eisenhower did it. Simple: We enforce the laws we already have. We deport illegal aliens through direct and indirect means such as no social services and no other perks, no automatic citizenship for children of illegals. Many will willingly deport themselves. Fine employers. Build a wall and increase BP. And get rid of Johnny Sutton among others.
