Rep. Dan Lundgren (R-CA) proposes "Blue Cards" & $1000 fines for illegals

Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Calif., unveiled legislation he said was "an alternative to several of the large holes in the so-called Senate compromise."

It would send home illegal immigrants who had been in the U.S. for fewer than five years and bar them from gaining lawful status.

Those in the country five years or more would be able to get a "blue card" to live and work legally in the U.S. after paying a $1,000 fine and learning English and American civics, but they could not bring their families. Blue card holders would have to leave the country to apply for legal residency.

In contrast, the bipartisan Senate compromise would allow illegal immigrants in the country by the beginning of this year to adjust their status.

Simple solution.....if your illegal in country you are a criminal....you should turn yourself in for enabling, coddling, pandering and bending over exercises by the congress and homeland security....a exorcism of sorts...when complete....they get a new suit, $100.00 in cash and a bus ride to Monterey, Mexico for free.

No. They need to pay hefty fines (closer to $5k than $1k) and be ineligible for social security/medicare/etc.

Why can’t the pols understand that we just don’t want 12-20 million illegals and the stroke of a pen to change their status doesn’t change our views.

We need to oppose any special benefits to those who came here illegally.

They should get no special visas.

They should get no preference in nonimigrant visa programs.

They should get no preference in immigrant visa programs.

Send them home. If they wish to return, let them apply just like anyone else from their home country.

If they want to seek permanent residency, let them apply like everyone else does, under the exact same rules. I'm fine with giving them amnesty for their past transgressions of immigration law, as long as they are sent home and receive no other special benefits.

The current proposal with its Z visas is far worse than simple amnesty. It not only forgives illegal immigrants of their past offenses, it rewards them for breaking the law, and explicitly excludes from those benefits those that followed our immigration laws.

Okay, some one comes up and applies for a blue card saying he has been in the country 5 years or more. How do they know he has been in the country 5 years or more? Forged documents! Forget it, same old scam! Don’t you people in Washington ever learn!

Exacto . The anchor baby is one thing. The killer is the family unification part. The push is to allow parents and close family to join the newbees. The old ones will move right to soc sec. If each newbee is allowed 3 family members , well , whats 3 x 15 million ? Absurd....

"So.. let me get this strait.. he changes the name from Z card to Blue card and everything is all right????"

Not entirely. He also dropped the $5,000 fine to $1,000. Apparently that way the illegals can be compensated for higher gas prices when they drive under the influence.

Cut off welfare.

Force employers to check legal status and give them the tools to do so.

Force the Social Security Administration to report being given fake SSNs or a SSN that doesn't match the name of the person using it.

Cut off their reasons for coming here.

If they have no way to support themselves, they will either deport themselves, or volunteer for deportation.

There will still be some that try to find ways around this by working for cash, or by claiming to be an independent contractor. However, those will be easier to find once we start weeding out the majority of them.

Once they are deported, go ahead and let them apply to come back.

They ignored our immigrations laws, but so did our government. I'm willing to forgive their transgressions, but not reward them for them. They are also not any more deserving of residency than those wishing to come here legally, so let them apply under the exact same criteria.

A GOOD immigration bill has been introduced in the Senate, but no one will talk about it.

INHOFE INTRODUCES IMMIGRATION BILL

http://inhofe.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressRoom.PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=4eca820b-802a-23ad-4311-97a586990598&Region_id=&Issue_id=4e74117e-802a-23ad-40cc-02fa02764c40

May 2, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today once again introduced his immigration legislation aimed at addressing the ever-increasing influx of illegal immigrants to the United States and its strain on society. Inhofe’s ENFORCE - Engaging the Nation to Fight for Our Right to Control Entry -Act (S.1269) increases U.S. border security, emphasizes greater enforcement of existing immigration laws and prevents amnesty and other shortcuts for illegal immigrants.

“Illegal immigrants continue to cross our country’s borders, strain our economy and exploit our resources,” Inhofe said. “The gravity of this situation warrants that Americans of all political stripes come together to address this problem immediately. I will not stand idly by and watch our great nation collapse under the pressures of uncontrolled illegal immigration; this is a crisis and one that must be addressed aggressively.

“Simply granting citizenship to immigrants, who are currently in our country illegally, is not the answer. We must enhance our border security, hold those accountable who encourage illegal immigration and ensure that those who violate our laws by entering our country illegally do not have this illegal activity easily forgiven and even rewarded with permanent residence or citizenship. Our nation’s future rests on Congress’ actions of today, and the ENFORCE Act is a strong step in the right direction to help solve our growing problem of illegal immigration.”

Major Provisions in Inhofe’s ENFORCE Act:

· Establishes the National Border Neighborhood Watch (NBNW) Program allowing retired law enforcement officers to assist Border Patrol agents by reporting illegal border crossings.
· Makes unlawful-presence in the United States a felony.
· Establishes an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
· Authorizes funding for online immigration training for state and local law enforcement officers.
· Eliminates the practice of granting automatic U.S. citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants in an effort to reduce ‘anchor babies.’
· Establishes an independent verification system for Social Security numbers; also mandates that immigrant’s Social Security numbers expire when visa runs out.
· Establishes electronic birth & death registries to fight fraudulent Social Security cards
· Helps reduce Individual Taxpayer Identification Number abuse.
· Empowers state & local law enforcement to carryout immigration laws (but does not make it mandatory).
· Establishes penalties for most flagrant employer tax violations—i.e. if an employer willfully files incorrect tax returns, they will be assessed the maximum penalties available.
· Makes it illegal to operate day laborer centers for illegal aliens and to give them unemployment assistance.
· Eliminates in-state tuition benefits for illegal aliens.

Sort of like a frequent lawbreaker miles type program - the longer you've broken our laws, the more rewards points you get. Those rewards points earn you a stay-in-the-US-permanently upgrade.

This ‘blue card’ status can work if it bars illegals from receving social security.

Put them on rail road cars, busses, planes, and ship them out. If we don't, there will be hell to pay, one way or another. When your neighborhood is on fire with gang warfare, you'll sing a different tune.

John and Ken saying the background check on illegals has to be completed within 24 hours, and gang members have to renounce their gangs in writing, to obtain a Z visa.
