I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that...but I am leaning toward crying. I work for the federal govt. We have a financial system for which a background check must be completed before access is given to an employee. In some cases, 6 months can go by, depending on what is in an applicant’s background. The girl here who approves access gets all kinds of heat from people wanting to know why it takes so long, or why they are not being granted access. She stands her ground. What is wrong with this picture?

I heard on KFAB radio news that Sen. Nelson of Nebraska will vote to bring it to the floor but will vote against the bill in it's present form.

If cloture different from bring it to the floor?

Obviously, it is going to be removed - since “nobody” wants to penalize these fine poor Mexican workers (er,illegal alien criminals) by actually charging them for the millions they have cost in lost taxes and gained benefits....

I'm in California. How much do you want to bet the state (make that taxpayers) ends up subsidizing their fine like we do their auto insurance?

“Sen. Nelson of Nebraska will vote to bring it to the floor but will vote against the bill in it’s present form.”

That’s a good strategy-bring it to the Floor, then kill it. Excellent in fact.

Per Jim Bunning, each illegal sucks $30,000 annually out of us. "Claims that young workers support Social Security are simply a myth."

Does the WH even listen to ANY of this stuff...or care at all? I know the Senate doesn't.

I have one simple suggestion to respond to supporters of this bill.

If they make the usual unsustainable promises (fewer illegal immigrants in the future, real fence, border security. etc.) ask them to put their money where their mouth is—a $10,000 bond, payable to charity, if what they promise and predict turns out incorrect.

They can blow hot air all they want, but if they don’t post the bond, we know how little these promises are worth.

“I know the Senate doesn’t.”

Keep the pressure on. Keep making the calls. The Wash. Times reports today that less than 20 senators support the bill so far and that nearly 40 have said they do not support it. I would wager that in a couple days, the number will be above 40. Your calls DO matter, I don’t care what the aide may say. These guys and dolls in the senate care about re-election first. Remember that.

I am told there is language in the draft to allow the $5,000 fine to be appealed and waived. The person appealing would get a tax-payer funded lawyer to make the appeal. I assume they could file a class action and get the fine waived for all 20 million of them. I haven’t seen it so I can’t vouch for it, but it wouldn’t surprise me. This is a huge fraud on the American people. But there is no provision to get taxpayers off the hook for the trillion-dollar price tag on this sucker.

But by the time the new bill contents are available, the bill will have already been passed.

Every last one of them who votes for it should be impeached.

Utter dereliction of duty and political cowardice.

This is unbelievable.

But that seems like a risky strategy because they could probably get 51 votes to pass it. I'd rather it never come to the floor.

It’d require 60 votes for passage. They call it a “super-majority” needed for major legislation such as this.

I thought the 60 votes were only needed for cloture but for the bill itself, only 51 votes are needed. I hope you’re right.

“Reid admits that, under the current system and with the current number of border agents, they can apprehend only 5% (five-percent) of those coming across the border illegally.

That is an atrocity, and Congress and the Bush Administration are fully responsible”

95% open borders....per Bush’s instruction.
Oh, and terrorize the few BP’s into submission!!

Hopefully law enforcement will obey their Constitutional duties and arrest all members of Congress who vote for this high treason.

Oh wait, there’s no such thing anymore.

Prepare to scream. Get a glass of iced tea or water...then read this:

) Many criminals and terrorists will find it easy to get a Z visa. The bill allows the government only one day to conduct a so-called “background check” on the applicant. If the (already overstretched) feds can’t find anything in that single day, the alien gets a probationary visa that lets him roam at will and seek employment legally.
~snip~

~snip~
5) The bill transforms the federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from a law-enforcement agency into an amnesty-distribution center. If ICE officials apprehend an alien who appears eligible for the Z visa (in other words, just about any illegal alien), they can’t detain him. Instead, ICE must help him apply for the Z visa.

Rather than initiating removal proceedings, ICE will be initiating amnesty applications. It’s like turning the Drug Enforcement Agency into a needle-distribution network.

6) The bill even lets gang members get the amnesty. This comes at a time when violent international gangs have brought mayhem to our cities. More than 30,000 gang members operate in 33 states, trafficking in drugs, arms and people.

Deporting illegal-alien gang members has been a top ICE priority. This bill would end that: Under it, a gang member qualifies for the Z-visa privileges as long as he simply signs a “renunciation of gang affiliation.” He can keep his tattoos.
