Canadian Front Page: Experts Say Many of the Claims in Al Gores Film Are Wrong Posted by Noel Sheppard on May 20, 2007 - 11:02.
Heres something that is almost a metaphysical certitude: no major American newspaper, in the midst of all the current global warming hysteria, would dare do a front-page feature article questioning the merits of Al Gores schlockumentary An Inconvenient Truth.
Yet, there it was Saturday, covering almost two-thirds of the front page of Canadas National Post, right smack in the middle, with a big picture of the Global Warmingist-in-Chief, surrounded by the shocking headline:
Even Climate Change Experts Say Many of the Claims in Al Gores Film Are Wrong.
So How Did it Become Required Classroom Viewing?
Think youll see that some day on the front page of the New York Times, Washington Post, or USA Today?
While you ponder, the article was just as skeptical (emphasis added throughout):
First it was his world history class. Then he saw it in his economics class. And his world issues class. And his environment class. In total, 18-year-old McKenzie, a Northern Ontario high schooler, says he has had the film An Inconvenient Truth shown to him by four different teachers this year.
"I really don't understand why they keep showing it," says McKenzie (his parents asked that his last name not be used). "I've spoken to the principal about it, and he said that teachers are instructed to present it as a debate. But every time we've seen it, well, one teacher said this is basically a two-sided debate, but this movie really gives you the best idea of what's going on."
Amazing. The article continued:
Even scientists who back Mr. Gore's message admit they're uncomfortable with liberties the politician takes with "science" in the film. But, McKenzie says most of his classmates are credulous.
His teachers are not much more discerning. "They don't know there's another side to the argument," he says. McKenzie's mother was outraged to find out that Mr. Gore's film was being presented as fact in her son's classroom. "This is just being poured into kids' brains instead of letting them know there's a debate going on," she says. "An educational system falls down when they start taking one side."
But Mr. Gore's filmed climate-change lecture is showing up in classrooms across Canada, frequently unaccompanied by critical analysis or a discussion of competing theories. "One of the teachers at my kid's school showed it and he even said ahead of time, 'There is some propaganda in this,' " says Tim Patterson, a Carleton University earth sciences professor. "I said to him, 'You even knew this was a propaganda film, and you still showed it in your classroom?' " The weirdest part: It was the gym teacher.
If you have children in junior or high school, there is a good chance they have been shown An Inconvenient Truth in school - or they will be soon.
Shocking. Regardless of the admitted and not admitted flaws in this film, educators in Canada are showing it to students without any balance from the other side of the debate.
How disgraceful.
BIG surprise!
In Canada this could be ruled a “hate crime”.
Naa, it’s still legal to criticize donkey-headed “american” politicians.
The GW SHAM is so big, it is like trying to hide a gorilla in your living room....who can not miss it??? Yes, I know, a deaf, dumb and blind liberal.
Human-caused global warming has been so over-sold, the backlash is going to be a thing of beauty.
Usually the Canadians only get Liberal Party PC lies in their press. This is a refreshing exception, especially since the Moron False God Al Gore is so hateful to the Canadians.
O.K., where's the "news"?
canadians be slow learners!
An eerie reminder. I was in the seventh grade when we had a gym teacher stand in for our history teacher. It was the height of the "Cold War" and one of the other students asked, "What is Communism?"
His answer was, "It's 'take from the rich and give to the poor. That's all it is; take from the rich and give to the poor."
Seventh graders don't often think about what teachers tell them, just absorb it. It wasn't until years later that I wondered if this guy really had an agenda, because the school we were in was in a poor area.
Most long-term researchers on climate and weather, most of whom we still haven't heard from, have simply chuckled and gone about their business.
Most of us who have worked all our lives in technical and scientific professions have met the few oddballs: seemingly competent, but with character flaws which color their judgement and cancels out whatever technical excellence they could contribute to their field.
Personally, I have met a half dozen or so; fortunately, in private business, they seem to more on regularly.
In government, it seems, they hang around forever, and become media darlings.
They do well with the neurotics like themselves and, of course, with the below 50-IQ contingent. The remarkable thing is that there are so many in this latter category.
If Hitler's propaganda speeches and Joseph Goebbels' regular press releases were given in videotape form to these doofuses, they would show that too.
Perhaps the requirement for teachers should involve more than simply the ability to teach.
File under “Stories You Won’t See In The MSM.”
I believe that a half-truth is a whole lie and an over-representation of facts is lying.
"Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point,I believe it is appropriate to have an OVER-REPRESENTATION OF FACTUAL PRESENTATIONS on how dangerous (global warming) is..." -- Al Gore
Al "the boob" Gore says his lies are justified. You now see the consequences of educators also believing his lies are justified. His lies became the lies of the educators when they accepted responsibility for Al Gores lies.
Even an article challenging the hype doesn't quite "get it".
The "settled issue" according to Mr. Bore is not about theories; it is about science. Science is not subject to debate. Only opinion, including "theories" can be demagogued into endless foolishness.
Reminds me of one of my favorite Twain quotes:
"Now, if I wanted to be one of those ponderous scientific people, and 'let on' to prove what had occurred in the remote past by what had occurred in a given time in the recent past, or what will occur in the far future by what has occurred in late years, what an opportunity is here! Geology never had such a chance, nor such exact data to argue from! Nor 'development of species,' either! Glacial epochs are great things, but they are vague -- vague. Please observe: --
In the space of one hundred and seventy-six years the Lower Mississippi has shortened itself two hundred and forty-two miles. That is an average of a trifle over one mile and a third per year. Therefore, any calm person, who is not blind or idiotic, can see that in the Old Oolitic Silurian Period,' just a million years ago next November, the Lower Mississippi River was upwards of one million three hundred thousand miles long, and stuck out over the Gulf of Mexico like a fishing-rod. And by the same token any person can see that seven hundred and forty-two years from now the Lower Mississippi will be only a mile and three-quarters long, and Cairo and New Orleans will have joined their streets together, and be plodding comfortably along under a single mayor and a mutual board of aldermen. There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact.
Algore is going around the country TRAINING teachers and folks who agree with him in the way to present this in classrooms and small groups in their towns. This is a like a burgeoning religious movement, with the recent converts being zealots for the cause. These training sessions teach the folks to present the arguments against GW, then immediately shoot them down as being bought and paid for by the oil industry.
Schools will see a lot more of this as a result of these zealots, and unless parents fight for the kids to have a balancing viewpoint, it's not going to happen. Parents need to make SURE of exactly what's in the 'curriculum' that will be presented to their kids, and have some alternative materials, like the video "The Great Global Warming Swindle" on hand to make SURE the school presents a balance to the climate hysteria.
"Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point,I believe it is appropriate to have an OVER-REPRESENTATION OF FACTUAL PRESENTATIONS on how dangerous (global warming) is..." -- Al Gore
What a telling quote that is. Perhaps parents should gather up articles such as this to give to their children to bring to class when this film is shown.
“So How Did it Become Required Classroom Viewing?”
DUH!
Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
BUMP!
