Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio sent out a message about global warming at the Cannes Film Festival.
The heartthrob has made a film, the 11th Hour, warning that human beings face extinction as a result of the environmental crisis.
At a press conference in the South of France following the screening, The Blood Diamond actor, 32, attacked US President George Bush, saying: "It's very simple. He's done very little for the environmental movement."
The Titanic star's latest film, which he narrates, follows another environmental warming documentary by former US Presidential candidate Al Gore, shown at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
DiCaprio defended Gore from criticism over the amount of energy he has been reportedly using to jet around the world and to run his home.
"Don't shoot the messenger", he said. "This person is trying to relay a message to the public and the way that he travels should not be splayed out like that."
DiCaprio said it should be oil companies that came under scrutiny and that the Government should make systematic change.
The US star said he took steps in his own life to reduce global warming, telling the famous film festival: "I do try to live my life in a green manner. I have installed solar panels in my house and the car that I drive is a hybrid one.
"But it's more about the day-to-day things, being conscious about being a consumer, about looking to endorse green technology. People ask, 'what can a hybrid car do?' It's not about that. It's about being a consumer, the choices you make everyday."
Hollyweird restatement of the classic, "Some animals are more equal than others" philosophy.
I agree. One of the talk shows I listen to is Laura Ingraham who lets me know which entertainer has completely gone off the deep end, then I’m finished with that one. The moderately whacked ones are left untouched as most of ‘em are whacked to some degree.
I’m glad he made a movie. Now in years to come we can all point and laugh and he can’t deny it.
Dumb-ass.
OK Leo, how about you? Is flying back and forth across the Atlantic ocean in a private jet just to view a few films, doing your part for global warming?
You know in Titanic when Leo’s character died and slipped beneath the water, I couldn’t help but smile a little bit.
But alas it was only make believe...
I’m sorry, I keep forgetting . . . now what university did Leo DiCaprio get his Ph.D in science from and where did he actually work in the field as a scientist? I just keep forgetting with all these actors and actresses that are an authority. There are so many. Oh yeah, Leo does not have any experience whatsoever in this field. Silly me. They sound so official :-). They do have experience however in fiction and it shows in all their films and comments.
Absent something happening on a planetary scale, (asteroid impact, multiple megavolcanos erupting simultaneously, lethal global epidemic), he is basically full of it.
Nothing man can do can wipe man off the planet, we’re just too darn spread out, plus, some of the time, we’re pretty smart.
Heck, I can’t even keep the ants outa my kitchen, and this jerk is blathering on...
Extinction? LOL
Exaggerate much Leo??
What a loon.
If he really wanted to help he would take lots of his own money (how much does he really need to live on? $200K is plenty for him to live on, so everything above that amount would probably be about right). He should donate that money to average people who cannot afford to buy hybrid cars and install solar panels. Then they too can be *green* and Leo can feel good about himself!!
susie
Oh really I thought we were all going to live forever
[Isa. 11:6, 8-9].
A modest proposal: Why would any self-respecting evolutionist care about global warming? Life, after all, is a random chance occurrence and it’s survival of the fittest. Who is Leonardo to step in and try to influence te course of natural selection? I mean really, what if, say 5 billion years ago, a life species had stepped in and tried to save an inferior life form from itself? We might not be here today! Stop the hand wringing and let nature take its course.
“alot of the rock groups that I like expunge liberal crap.”
If they would only expunge it rather than espouse it.
Was that Lincoln? I thought it was Ben Franklin.
I’m betting there are a lot more FReepers with advanced degrees than actors in Hollywood. I have one, and I’m thinking there are probably thousands here, would you agree?
Exactly.
