DOLE STATEMENT ON IMMIGRATION PROPOSAL
May 18th, 2007 - Washington, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole today made the following statement regarding the immigration reform proposal expected to come before the Senate on Monday:
While I recognize that immigration reform is urgently needed, based on what Ive learned so far, I would oppose this proposal unless it is radically altered, said Dole.
Last year, Dole voted against the Senate bill that included amnesty, and she continues to oppose amnesty. She supports stricter border enforcement, effective workplace verification, and a truly temporary worker program to fill jobs that American workers do not want in construction, agriculture and other sectors.
Background:
As of Friday evening, the final text of the bill had not yet been released. Based on what shes learned about the proposal, Dole is concerned that:
-Illegal immigrants could receive a special visa that could be renewed indefinitely; -Social Security benefits could be obtained on the basis of an expired Social Security number (as a result of overstaying a visa); and -the so-called triggers would not sufficiently secure the border.

But lets wait and see what she does when it's crunch time. Her statement leaves plenty of wiggle room.
In other words, she bears watching.
The New York Times. ;-)
Since when do American workers not want construction jobs? As far as that goes there are not to many jobs Americans won't do, regardless of the BS our politicians sling.
Three cheers for Liddy!!! She gets my vote (again).
I hope that this signals that the political winds are becoming clear to our politicians.
“Social Security benefits could be obtained on the basis of an expired Social Security number (as a result of overstaying a visa); and -the so-called triggers would not sufficiently secure the border.”
This is another reason why Socialist Security should be completely dismantled. It should be closed to new participants (read, “suckers”). Everyone should be able to opt for a lump sum payment based on “contributions” paid in by employee and employers (plus interest minus retirement benefits already received, if any).
Are you serious? The NY Times talked about Fred’s loafers?
Fred talks about his family on occasion and is open about his Christianity. I do not think he is anything but straight. Not that there is anything wrong with being otherwise——
The worst is that little monkey saturday morning extolling the virtues of illegal immigration.
“Barnes is an idiot. Illegal immigration is why I don’t watch Beltway Boys anymore.”
I quit watching it a couple years ago for exactly the same reason.
Fred Barnes is too happy. Life in DC is too good to him so he ends up being a hack. A TV hack obviously, not an elected one. Life in DC is far too nice and comfortable for our political class. That’s how they come up with this amnesty horse shit. They laugh at the peasants and how the illegal aliens impact them.
I sent Burr and email. I reminded him that during his senate campaign he kept saying how 51% of North Carolinians wouldn’t vote for Erskine Boyles and that 50% of North Carolinians don’t support given amnesty to criminals.

They make millions of dollars, and are fawned over by their
peers. Then they go back to their million dollar homes in Chevy Chase, and Alexandria, where their homes have security monitors and gates. They know nothing about the middle class, and even less about the working class.
Meanwhile, many veterans have returned to find their well paying construction jobs have gone to illegals for half the pay. Truckers, and plumbers, and roofers the same. Are these Americans less important because they don’t hold a degree from Johns Hopkins or Georgetown or Yale? Well, evidently these D C inbred bozos think so! Or they don’t think at all, or even worse, have contempt for middle America!!
Save your cash, even FOX is mostly UNWATCHABLE. I get my news off the internet now.
She has found a copy of the letter she sent me....LOL!
Admittedly, she’s earned my “respect” with her Senate record.

Sort of like the border fence legislation that was passed last year ? There was a provision the bill that gave the Secretaries at the DHS the discretionary power to spend the funds that were earmarked for fence construction on other "border security measures" if they ultimately decided that it was necessary.
It must not be liberal enough. Blackbird.
