Possible? Yeah, what is not just possible but highly probable is that if Giuliani is nominated as our candidate the Republican Party as we know it, and as a viable political power, will be destroyed. That's what you're messing with when you believe you're taking an intellectual, nuanced, and pragmatic position to support Giuliani. You're advocating the destruction of the Republican Party because you got it into your head that Rudy is somehow a leader or charismatic or something and that, if he is, that somehow means more than the core principles that are the very foundation of our party. If you take that foundation away, the party will crumble and splinter.

We've all been through all of this ad nauseum. I'm not going to change your mind, and you won't change mine. The hill I'm going to die on here at FR is that I will support (financially, politically) the Republican Nominee, regardless of whether he/she is worthy of your support.

Regardless of the aspersions cast upon me (and my fellow FReepers, now either banned or opused), being called a "liberal" is a pejorative, not to be forgotten. The Republican party will "crumble and splinter" if it can no longer be elected, from cities to states, because of rigid criteria which varies from East to West, rural to urban.

If you and the anti-Rudy folks would get out into "retail politics", you would be a formidable force. Instead, we have to get thread-by-thread-by-thread eugenics, rather than more substantive matters (of greater temporal import) such as, um, Amnesty?

I really hope to keep a nation I can fight for/against you later. We still have many months WRT the Presidential Nomination.

God Bless.

A guy with a 91% conservative record is unfit to serve in the Senate but a guy with an 84% conservative record should be leader of the free world. Right. Sheer hypocrisy.

You had to invent something I said just so you could trot out your fave word, "hypocrisy".

Please cut and paste where I said Graham was unfit to serve in the Senate.

You can't, because I never said it, so please keep your whiney Tancredo-snortin hallucinations to yourself, please.

Coming late to the party.

Looks like I missed all the excitement (maybe it was a good thing I went to bed early last night).

I think you meant to respond to post #29.

I used to think that cracking down on employers was a key to controlling the problem. But no more.

I am for the FairTax and against the income tax and other payroll taxes in any form.

I have photographs in my study taken more than 100 years ago of towns in California and in the Northwest. In some of those photos there are men dressed in jeans and boots talking to indians wearing their ceremonial vestments. They are joking about something because each is bearing a wide grin. There is a Mexican looking Senora pushing a young toddler into a general store.

I look at these and think that today the problem is not Mexicans, it is the income tax. Because the income tax is used for only two things, to pay interest on the national debt and to pay for waste. Schools, roads, social security and medicare all have their separate taxes. Military spending has historically been carried by corporate taxes. Today military spending is exactly carried by corporate taxes and borrowing.

The outlays of the income tax revenues are used for paying interest on the debt and for wasteful programs such as PBS, NEA, WIC, Section 8 Housing, bilingual education etc. and many many others to numerous to list. Many of these programs did not exist more than a generation ago and those that did were at a scarce level.

A generation ago migrant farmworkers came to the USA to work and go home. The money they earned in six months in a season allowed them to live really well when they returned to their home. Now today they bring their families because our socialism supports them. Most of the working illegals are not able to support a family in the normal way on their income alone. This is why illegals band together 30 or so to a household. They are economizing in everyway possible to fund the next batch of illegals.

Cracking down on their banking and dwelling arrangements will go further than creating a police database on employers. Migrant farmworkers used to and still do sleep in farm bunkhouses near the fields they work in. They get room and board as well as pay. After the harvest they can migrate back home and stretch the power of their dollars.

But when their families enroll their children in public school this prompts all manner of social support programs to kick in. And the social programs are not so much about helping the poor as they are about maintaining their slice of the budget for the administrators of those programs.

The income tax is easily abused by K Street lobbyists who routinely bribe Congressional offices to steer income tax changes to favor them. Without the income tax the means of diverting government revenues to wasteful socialism program networks would be practically nonexistent. And without socialism getting funded, the administrators of those programs that indice illegals and their familes to come to the the USA will not be able to tailor the American social fabric to their own ends.

See the speech linked at post 36, and then tell me how wonderfully conservative that Adult Wannabe Lindsey Aw Shucks Graham is.
