I vow to oppose this legislation supported by Senators Edward Kennedy and John McCain. It provides a vast new immigration benefit to millions of illegal aliens who have broken our laws to live in the United States.I opposed the 1986 amnesty act because of this same reason. It proved to be the draw that we predicted it would be.I am deeply disappointed to see history repeating itself.
This package will confirm to the world that the U.S. does not really mean what it says when it comes to immigration enforcement. As a result of the citizenship benefit included in this legislation, despite the fine print, we will see a stampede across our borders.
This vast new amnesty and expansive guest worker program will surely be ridden with fraud and abuse, and ultimately lead to millions of public-assistance-dependent immigrants.
The Senates decision to blatantly ignore the Secure Fence Act signed into law last year and only require construction of 370 miles of fence, as opposed to the 854 miles mandated by the law, is a dramatic failure of this legislation. The San Diego border fence has proven that fencing works. The time has come to quickly implement the Secure Fence Act, not retreat from its mandates.
I believe that this package will result in lower wages for Americas already-struggling families by encouraging the importation of cheap foreign labor rather than investing, developing and growing a domestic workforce that will sustain our economy far into the future.
Amnesty is not the answer.Border enforcement must be first and it must be comprehensive. To do otherwise is to repeat the mistakes of the past. This Senate bill is bad for Americans, bad for our workers, bad for law enforcement and, most importantly, bad for national security.I will fight it.Please join with me.

We need this man for President, he has my support..
I can’t remember a worse piece of legislation in my lifetime and I lived through the LBJ era. This will be a disaster and i’m very angry that a man I fought hard for in 2000 has helped lead the charge on a bill that will be a disaster for our country and that will eventually destroy the party.
I know for a fact that i’m not going to be giving money and effort to get Republican candidates in 08.
bttt
Thanks to all those who are calling their Congressmembers. The "will of the people" has to be clearly translated to those who think they know it all. It's up to us to help President Bush do the right thing...that's how America works---and do the jobs they don't think we'll do ;-)
I am calling Capitol Hill and local offices. We can stop this if we keep the pressure on.
Hunter is the MAN!
Help Hunter become president. He will reverse this evil. In fact, he may get it killed beforehand.
“I cant remember a worse piece of legislation in my lifetime and I lived through the LBJ era.”
If ICE can’t handle their current workload, and can’t process apps for people who want to come in legally from places like Canada in under 2 years, then how in the (hades) can they handle 12 million apps from people who’ve been hiding and living illegally for years?
From a workability standpoint, this legislation can’t work due to this problem alone. If you think we can’t have enough busses to send home 12 million people (plus children born here), then how do you think that ICE can process 12 million new applications?
Senator Stabenow’s aide, a cute young thing, told me, “Well, there will be funding for more staff with the $5k that each of them will pay.” Uh, yeah, right.
Duncan Hunter is our country’s last hope. If he doesn’t win in ‘08, it’ll be the end of America as we know it.
Smoothtalker, I would urge you to at least give some money to Hunter, just don’t give any to the RNC.
Hunter now needs to distance himself from Bush using the same type of rhetoric: no tapdancing, no nuancing, no bu11$hit.
The party philosophy is a sound one. We should all take out our anger at those that have forgotten to follow it.
I didn’t phrase that right. I’ not going to be giving money and time to the party. If I like a specific candidate I could support him.
That is true but I suspect that most of the world already knows the US gov is full of politically expedient spineless windbags.
This is our war, and the only way we can fight it is with our voice.
Shout it out, people!

Agreed. Never give up. They work for us and they can’t read minds.
If that piece-of-garbage legislation is not vetoed by Bush (even tho he sponsored it), then we conservative Republicans have no home in the party. What a disgrace! Amnesty and no enforcement of existing laws . . . heck, no enforcement of the new laws to come either. We’ve only built 2 miles of the 700 mile fence we were promised.
I’d build a fence all the way from the Gulf to the Pacific Ocean and shoot anyone who tried to come across. We’re setting ourselves up for a disaster big-time by our border problems. Three of those islamofascists that were involved in the Fort Dix terror plot supposedly had 72 arrest among them, and not ONCE (I repeat, NOT ONCE) had they been found to be illegals.
This bi-partison bill is as nasty a bill as was the Fairness Act, another frontal assault on the Constitution and its citizens. Shame on the Republicans-in-name-only.
We need to “help” the Republicans in office PROVE their conservativism.
My guess is that most illegals will not take up the offer in this bill — either they won’t want to pay the fine or they’ll be afraid that if they return home their paperwork will fall into a black hole of bureaucracy, and they’ll never be able to return. I think this fear is quite justified.
If we can secure the border in 18 months, why hasn’t it been done already?
If the passport office can’t expedite passports because of recent rule changes, how are we going to deal with the paperwork this law will generate?
