MANCHESTER According to a nationally recognized pollster, former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has opened up a double-digit lead in New Hampshire over his two closest rivals.
A New Zogby International telephone poll posted on its Web site shows Romney jumping to 35 percent support from 25 percent a month ago.
His closest competitors, Arizona Sen. John McCain, who won the 2000 New Hampshire Presidential Primary, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, both stand at 19 percent in the poll conducted May 15 and 16 with a margin or error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.
McCain's support has dropped from 25 percent a month ago, while Giuliani's remains steady.
Romney regional campaign spokeswoman Sarah Pompei said she did not want to speak specifically about the poll, but did say the campaign has had great success building its grass roots organization in New Hampshire.
"The more Governor Romney actively campaigns in New Hampshire and voters have a chance to see him and hear him speak, the more his message of bringing change Washington resonates and the more excitement builds for our campaign," she said.
Romney also has a slight lead in an Iowa poll released Wednesday. Iowa holds the first caucus in the presidential sweepstakes.
Pollster John Zogby said in a statement "For Romney, this is a good couple of weeks. The real news is his significant gains in support in both Iowa . . . and now New Hampshire. He clearly already has the three M's : media, money and momentum. For critics, who will pooh-pooh his lead in neighboring New Hampshire, he has actually widened his lead against two party icons, one of whom, Giuliani, has stayed static since January, and the other, McCain, who has declined."

Soon the rest of the U.S. will realize that Romney is the only REAL candidate we have.
Mitt vs Hillary......Mitt wins. Write that down.
With Bush and his Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill, I am so angry that there is no way I would EVER vote for ANY Republican that supports this Amnesty destruction of Social Security et all - a financial, and cultural, disaster for our country. I am so sick of their lies. I am so sick of Bush. I am so sick of that fat head Kennedy. I am just so sick of the lies, the lies right to my face that this isn't amnesty. They never want to account for the costs. Republicans and Bush spent like drunk sailors - but really it isn't "spending", it's simply looting my money. This Amnesty bill is the biggest big government, most expensive, biggest loot of all time to me, my family, the Middle Class, the American people.
It is an insult.
Bush it an insult.
If Romney is guy to stop this, then he is my man.
If Romney is the guy to speak out clearly and publically on this, then he is my man.
I like what I hear.
I like what I see.
Right now, I like Romney. He is holding three Kings.
I’m from Massachusetts, and while he talks well, I’m not sure if he’s got the stuff. I’ve seen Romney in action, and while I have good feelings about him personally (I know one of his staff), I don’t have a lot of enthusiasm for him politically. Yet.
The guy who signed a permanent assault weapons ban, and endorsed it again in the last debate. No thank you.
Yup.
I’m still loving his best comment so far.
“How bad would it be if Clinton was in office again?”
“Well, I know of something worse - Hillary, Reid and Pelosi running the war on terror!”
BOOOM.
Joe backs Mitt as he is originally from Mass.
If you are against the illegals, Hunter is the one who has spent the past many years and authoring bills on the subject along being the one to get the fence bill passed.
His issue for yrs.
The others have jumped on the band wagon years after when they could have been doing something about illegals and the border earlier.
Former Senator Fred D. Thompson... [Rich Lowry]
... today released the following statement regarding the immigration bill currently pending in the United States Senate: With this bill, the American people are going to think they are being sold the same bill of goods as before on border security. We should scrap this bill and the whole debate until we can convince the American people that we have secured the borders or at least have made great headway.

I think Mitt has a chance.
Two things going for him:
Mitt is responsive to the base unlike McCain.
Mitt is a hard-working competent manager like Rudy but without the baggage.
But then again, Fred may take it because he is more endeared to the base or Rudy may win it because of his star power, but I think Mitt will give them both a good fight because he has a work ethic that is on steriods.
Who do you think is better for this country?
Bump!
What’s Mitt’s abortion stance?
Depends on whose votes he currently needs.
LOL...exactly what I was thinking, especially after the debate. I was wanting to triple confirm and find a nice way to say “no” to someone inquiring whether I was a Mitt supporter :) Thanks!
That tune is getting so old. There are other issues.
Yeah. And Romney can't be trusted on any of them.
Help us, who do you support?
I’ve never been able to get a Romney supporter to answer my question. Maybe you can help:
Shouldn’t a candidate’s current rhetoric bear at least some passing resemblance to his record?

Romney is not a fan of Roe v. Wade. He’s recently had a bit of a conversion in that regard. In short, he believes that individual states should have the right to determine what their laws are going to be regarding abortion.
No one at this point.
He sure was the last two times he ran for office, and by his own admission supported "abortion rights" since 1970, before Roe vs. Wade.
Hes recently had a bit of a conversion in that regard.
Right. As Tancredo described it: A "road to Des Moines" conversion.
In short, he believes that individual states should have the right to determine what their laws are going to be regarding abortion.
The God-given rights to life and liberty are inalienable, and therefore can't be alienated by any government or person, short of a conviction on a capital offense. Those who consider abortion to be a states' rights issue fail to understand this cornerstone principle of American freedom.
Those who promote abortion as a states' rights issue are the modern equivilent of the supporters of slavery in the 1850's.
