John Edwards Spokesman Protested with Code Pink Traitors at Walter Reed

John Edwards spokesman, Iraq war veteran John Bruhns, has been defending the Edwards presidential campaign from criticism over Edwards' call for people to protest the Iraq war at Memorial Day parades.

Appearing via telephone on the Fox News Channel's 'Big Story with John Gibson', Bruhns said that the Edwards campaign is backing away from the call to publicly protest the war at parades and is instead asking supporters to send care packages and to reflect on the war.

While Bruhns said that he himself did not support Edwards' call to protest at Memorial Day parades, he failed to mention that he has protested the war at a similarly hallowed setting: Walter Reed Army Medical Center where grieviously wounded Iraq and Afghan vets struggle to recover from their war wounds.

Bruhns spent several Friday nights outside the main gate to Walter Reed in 2005 with the terrorist supporting Marxist front group Code Pink after the group became notorious for taunting wounded soldiers with signs like "Maimed for a Lie" and "Enlist Here and Die for Halliburton."

Bruhns is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. IVAW called our soldiers in Iraq war criminals in testimony before the World Tribunal on Iraq in Istanbul, Turkey in 2005. The tribunal endorsed the terrorists in Iraq and their killing of American soldiers.

Bruhns is currently featured in a pro-surrender ad by Votevets.org that was directed by Oliver Stone.

All that I ask is that you remove the accusation that I am a member of Iraq
Veterans Against The War. I’m not a member of that organization in any way,
shape, or form. Again, I am not a member of Iraq Vets Against The War.
Also, I attended the WR demonstration a total of two times. The first time
I went I was under the impression that the vigil was taking place in
response to the BRAC decision to close Walter Reed. I attended one more and
realized it was wrong and even requested for CODEPINK to take my information
off their website and also to stop conducting the demonstrations. I even
reached out to the other side in a very respectful manner. I do not condone
any demonstrations from either organization outside of Walter Reed.

If you wish you can post this on your site to clear the record.

I am giving you this one last chance, I hope you will take it before it goes
to court. I will pursue legal action if the corrections are not made.

I, in fact, had given the ticket to John Bruhns, who is in Iraq Veterans Against the War. However, Lynn’s office had already called the media, and everyone knew I was going to be there, so I sucked it up and went.

I got the ticket back from John, and I met one of Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s staffers in the Longworth Congressional Office building and we went to the Capitol via the underground tunnel. I went through security once, then had to use the rest room and went through security again.

Setting The Record Straight

I have recently attended a few of the peace vigils at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. During the time I attended the vigils I noticed that there has been a spin put on the real message of the vigil. The â€œspinâ€? is coming from biased members of the media and counter demonstrators. A member of the vigil has appeared on the Fox News Program Hannity and Colmes where she was accused of protesting the troops in the hospital. The Washington Times has also written news columns that portray members of the vigil as anti-troop and made the insinuation that the vigil is actually a protest of the troops in the hospital. There is large group of counter demonstrators who protest the vigils every week and express the same message that the vigil is some sort of protest against our troops. It is quite the contrary. I just wanted to set the record straight for those who are unsure why the vigils are being conducted, and those who have been trying to smear us.

The vigil was founded and formed by an organization called Code Pink. They began conducting silent vigils in opposition to the Iraq war. The membership of the vigil grew as time went on. Code Pink was joined by members of Military Families Speak Out, representatives from labor organizations, and Veterans for Peace. While the membership of the vigil grew so did the membership of counter demonstrators. Once I learned about the vigil I decided to get out there and see what it was about.

The first vigil that I attended left me very impressed and encouraged. I observed the members of the vigil to be against the war in Iraq and President Bush’s policies, but at the same time very supportive of the troops. The main message of the vigil (in my opinion) was to end the war, increase veteran’s benefits, and provide adequate health care to the troops. As a veteran of the Iraq war I felt patriotic just to be in the presence of the people conducting the vigil.

All I ask is that when you view the vigil please do so with an open mind. We are only conducting the vigil for peace and justice. If the vigil were really against the troops, I would not be involved because I am a troop. The members of the vigil are nothing but supportive of our brave men and women in uniform. Please keep this in mind no matter how hard the opposition attempts to smear our message.

From a Vet: Last week at the White House
October 31st, 2005
I was in Sunday’s Washington Post. I thought you might find it interesting. I took Cindy Sheehan to Walter Reed last Friday night. She and I went in and delivered a “get well” card to the troops. She was welcomed with open arms. It was really nice. After we left the mob scene across the street began to scream the most awful things at her. We left quick though. I drove her to the airport right after we left Walter Reed.
