Assault weapons are legal, semi-autos that look scary. "Sawed off" shotguns are have a stock and have a barrell under 18 inches. On the other hand, if you want a legal "sawed off" shotgun, just purchase a fully legal "Judge by Tarus". LINK

Sawed off shotguns are not even mentioned in the so called assault weapons BAN. They are not banned but highly regulated since 1934. Not that that high regulation has done anything to stop their use or possession.
