Getting stuck behind slow drivers in the left lane and having meltdowns over it is just not worth all the angst and blood pressure increase. When it happens to me, I still drive defensively (staying one car length back at a minimum, more if it is raining), and look for a safe opportunity to pass them on the right if they never move over. I am always able to pass them fairly quickly and go on my merry way. No need to get all bent out of shape over it.
Heard horror stories about the rear ends on those new Chryslers now that Dana is out of business. We looked at the Charger. And Stang. Cheap interior even with an upgrade.
The G8/Commodore should be interesting, but not my style.

You're right of course....and I'm actually doing better every year.... I'm getting better at my one handed communication, I'm better at judging when to cut in at certain speeds and I have a larger vocabulary. ;)

Nonsense. My Jaguar XK8 is in sixth gear turning 2100 RPM at 90 MPH. It is in fifth gear turning 2800 RPM at 55. That's a simple matter of gearing and physics. My instantaneous fuel economy at 70 MPH on flat ground is around 35 MPG. At 55 it is around 26 MPG.
In any case it is none of anyone's business how I use the fuel I buy. It is, however, everyone's business when some idiot is acting like they are the only person on the road that we all paid for.
On congested metropolitan highways there is no such thing as left-lane "passing." You either stay in the left lane or you stay in the right. Switching back and forth to "pass" slow drivers is simply not possible. The instant you get back to the right after having passed you run up on another car going 55 MPH.
I am usually a slow, right lane driver. I stay out of the left lane entirely, except when passing.
I expect as an equal courtesy to not be tailgated. When tailgated I tend to slow down to a nice safe 5 mph below the limit until I am passed.

Amen. I'm generally a left-lane driver, but I really do get annoyed by the people who zoom up behind me and tailgate when I'm maintaining a safe distance behind the car in front. When it's safe to do so, I'll get over to let the dude pass -- but meanwhile, riding my ass is not helpful.

Thats at 10 mph, correct? One car length for EVERY TEN MILES PER HOUR OF SPEED = safe following distance UNDER IDEAL CONDITIONS. You don’t want to be a car length behind me at 60 mph....I have an on/off switch on my brake lights for those folks. I keep right and pass left...just don’t tail gate me. This ain’t NASCAR...There is no drafting on the highway.

I'm typically at 15 mph+ and yes I would gladly move over, I like it when someone is driving much faster then I am because then I can get right back in the left lane after they zoom by and they will be the ones to flush out the cops.
In my experience, those that complain the most about slower drivers in the left lane are also the least likely to cede the lane when faster traffic comes up behind them.
Yep, someone doing 70 is just as annoying as someone doing 65
I actually stay away from all other traffic as much as possible. You are right, if something goes wrong on the road, there are no (or fewer) vehicles to collide with if they aren’t nearby in the first place.
The 1-car-length-per-10-mph idea *is* subject to adjustment either way for:
1) Condition and ability of vehicle and driver
2) Vehicle being followed.
3) Road conditions
4) Other vehicles involved.
The latter requires some explanation. If you’re running a caravan of friends and you all are connected by radio or cell, there’s no problem with running nose to tail, with less than 20’ separation at speed - particularly if you put the worst-braking car in front and echelon back accordingly.
As for no drafting on the highway? Tell that to the long chain of semis on 75 at this moment...

You have that right, my normal cruising speed is 80-85 whenever trafic allows.

Actually, I mispoke, it is 1 SECOND following distance for every ten MPH. We treat driving laws like illegals treat no entry signs. Just coz everyone does it dont make it right.
