Texas appears to have less than intelligent law makers if 100mph is the point in which tickets are issued by policy. They are missing out on a huge sum of income then. California has different policies regarding speeding tickets, apparently.
I don’t eat in my car while on trips. This takes away from the 1) enjoyment of the meal and 2) safety of keeping my mind fully on driving. But, go ahead and take unnecessary risks.
Lets not forget this, about the unlimited-speed (in most parts) Autobahn in Germany:
“The overall safety record of autobahns is comparable to other European motorways, and motorways are safer than other road types. A 2005 study by the Federal Minister of the Interior indicated that there were an equal number of accidents per kilometer on the autobahn in sections without any speed limits.”
Increased speed does not mean increased fatalities.
There’s no reason aside from revenue that freeway speeds decrease just because you cross a city line. If traffic it too heavy, the laws of physics will adjust the speeds down just fine on their own.
Also - I hate when a rural road drops from 55 to 25 instantly just because you entered the village limits of a podunk town nobody lives in anyway.
We prefer that our law enforcement officers actually spend their time busting real criminals like drug couriers and illegal alien smugglers than spend time having to go to court over BS little traffic charges. We think it’s a better use of our tax dollars. Once the drug issues and illegal issues go away, maybe we’ll think about changing that.
By the way, we had a budget surplus this year in TX. How’s the revenue stream in CA again?

Our revenue stream is not the problem in California. It is the amount being spent out on the social programs that the illegals are using in droves. Our state government spends at a rate that would make druken sailors blush. So, in Texas they don’t care about the number of people killed on the highway by careless and reckless drivers who exceed the speed limit by 20+ miles per hour (and are often under the influence of some substance too)? Or, perhaps in Texas they don’t have people killed on the highways by reckless drivers? Human life that cheap in Texas?

You do know that if your timing's a bit off, or if the target of your rage happens to get a bit ticked off in return and guns it, your cut-off can result in smoking ruin for you, the other guy, and probably a bunch of other people who were unfortunate enough to be on the same road as you, right?
Just make the pass and go about your business already. Personally I move over if someone faster comes along, unless doing so is going to seriously impair my ability to, say, pass the slow semi I'm approaching.

This is not the right time for me to merge right; I'm not going to brake hard to under the speed limit so 'grr' can drive his preferred speed. It is, however, a good time for me to plan to pass quickly so I can eventually let 'grr' by. Some people get nervous at this point and drive 68, which is both annoying and dangerous.
Did you know that many vehicles are calibrated wrong? Thanks to those annoying roadside display-radars that are placed in order to scare people into driving the limit, I've found that 30 on the speedo often means 27 or even 25. The slow guy you pass may think he's already speeding :)
Our biggest problem on Texas roads is drunk drivers and illegals. Abstract them, and we actually aren’t bad. Excessive speed, save for incompetent street racers, is rarely the cause of a fatality accident here. And, fortunately for us, the usual end for an incompetent wanna-be street racer is his own death and not the death of others.

Notice: It is NOT acceptable to pass the car to your right at +1 mph, when there’s a line of 5 cars behind you.
Actually, it's 80, but I will probably be doing 85 or so if I ever go that way.
And don’t forget the actual town is probably no where near the freeway. We have Casa Grande for that, where the people live is about 5 minutes from I-10 via their connecting road, but they have a chunk of 10 “in” their city limits for the ticket revenue.
Actually, 85 is the max speed limit in Texas - it’s just that it would be on the TTC. The current max posted limit is 80, though.

In light of the fact that I needed the diversion from my son’s situation where he is in Iraq, I’ve appreciated bantering with several people on this thread.
