Rest in peace, Reverand Falwell. Your heart was always in the right place and you were maligned for the wrong reasons. You always had my symphathy even when I disagreed with you.

Sorry, I may not have made my point clear.
We cannot reach God by Being Moral. The Gospel is not a system of morality. It is thoroughly different than morality.
It is possible, actually, to do good works, but not please God. It is possible to keep a near moral life, and still be utterly lost.
My only point is, Falwell stumped on the morality soapbox for so long, he may have misled people into thinking that Christianity was a system of moral teachings we need to attain. It is not. It is a direct, intimate, personal relationship with God, based not on our merits, but on what Christ did for us.

It is a direct, intimate, personal relationship with God, based not on our merits, but on what Christ did for us.Sitting in his congregation every Sunday, I assure you that this is something he never failed to mention. He preached the gospel, pure and simple, and never ever missed the opportunity to preach these truths of the gospel.

I don’t doubt it, and as I said in my original post, I commend him for his emphasis on the Gospel, but inside and outside his church.
But the world did not know him by his Sunday morning preaching. They knew him by his moral stands on issues of the day, many of which were also political.
I know he will be sorely missed.

Most religions have a set of rules, or principles, or precepts, or pillars, or instructions you have to follow something you have to measure up to in order to be saved/accepted by God/reach complete consciousness, etc. The Gospel is not like that at all You're reading a different Gospel than I am.
I hope the good Rev. is enjoying a Glorious homecoming!
To: Jake The Goose
Rest in peace, Mr. Falwell.

I am sad to see him go.
Just to let you know what a certain liberal blog in Arkansas is spouting:
Either Jerry Falwell believed his own twisted shit or it was just a big act to make himself very rich and powerful. Either way he was a blight on the name of religion and a blight on America and the world is a better place with him gone. Yippy!

I had to go and see what all the hubub was about. It took me a while. I kept typing the url..www.idiotsrus.com, but I kept getting a 404. So, I googled it, and recieved a question from google...Did you mean democraticundeground.com?.
OK, so I finally got there. It was hot, humid, dank, and very smelly. But, I endured, and even waded in deeper. Being the PMA kinda guy I am, I have to tell you, I was pleasantly surprised. It seemed to me that only about 89.6% of them are full time idiots. Some actually posted nice things, Christian messages, and some even ranted on others for being so...so...uh...DUmb!
Anywho, thanks for the heads up.
:O)

The way Falwell’s passing has stirred up the demons in Demoncratic Underground is proof that Rev. Falwell lived his life right.

I was lurking at that time and was very proud of the prayers that were offered for Clinton and the rebukes that were presented to those with unpleasant comments.
Now I am a newbie but not a new lurker.
I very rarely visit DU but I am very confident the reports are true of the ugliness within.
