FReeper REPORT: Kansas Governor asked if she will release phone records regarding Dean controversy
governor's office ^ | 5-14-07 | dfu

Posted on 05/14/2007 11:06:18 AM PDT by doug from upland

While writing this, I received a return phone call from the communications director for Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. She got back to me within five minutes of leaving the message.

Nicole Corcoran said that she was taken aback by my question. I had left the message that I am working on a freelance piece about the Sebelius/Dean/FreeRepublic/Quinn&Rose controversy. I wondered if her office would be willing to release the phone records for the time of the purported phone conversation with Dean.

Her initial comment was, "No one ever thought of that." As I pressed to see if she could get that done, she hesitated and flirted around the issue. The bottom line is that I suspect no phone records will be released. She commented that even if they were released, there would be people who wouldn't believe it and believe there was a secret backbone somewhere that wouldn't be revealed.

So, FReepers, there was the solution to solve it. If no call was made, it would seem that the Governor and Yeeeeeehaaaaaaa Howard Dean would be anxious to clear the record and press for FR and Quinn&Rose to acquiesce.

Will any of you be surprised if they refuse to release to phone records? Maybe they need time to sanitize them first.

Brownback got involved (on the governor’s side)

Whoa, wait... are you saying Sebelius wants to take Dean down?

I got in on this late today, but I gathered from Quinn that Brownback was back-pedaling on what he said through a “spokesman,” but he personally wouldn’t come out and say she didn’t say it.

No, what I got was that she called Brownback and Roberts and told them what was up and said she wasn’t going to include THEM in the attacks on Bush, or imply they (fine fellow Kansans) were responsible for the lack of National Guard. So, thinking it through, the “source” could be from Brownback’s office.

IIRC, Quinn called his source again before going on the air this morning. The source stands by the story.

Democrat Governor caught politicizing Kansas

A brief summary: A source apparently close to the situation has told Quinn that Sebelius called Brownback shortly after she made the Katrina-like statement to the press to apologize. She allegedly told Brownback that she had been instructed by Howard Dean and Dick (Durbin?) to blame the fictional “lack of response” to the hurricane on the absence of National Guard troops and equipment, which had been diverted to Iraq (not true).

She said she would not have said these things “unless she had to,” and that she was told not to pass up an opportunity like this.

KS Governor Sebilius (D) said:

1. Howard Dean called me at 5AM this morning and said we needed to “use this”.
2. [Senator] Dick [Durbin] called about two hours later and told me not to ask for federal help.
3. We had “too many” National Guard personnel

And making up stories like this, designed to turn the tragedy at Greensburg into some kind of political circus, is a shameful affront to the citizens of Greensburg and the citizen soldiers of the National Guard.”

Then why did you politicize it in the first place with your misguided and inaccurate remark about the National Guard not being able to respond properly due to Iraq? That in itself was a shameful affront to the citizens of Greensburg.

PROJECTION!!

She’s not going to stop lying and suddenly confess. She’s a RAT carpetbagger hack picked by the RAT politbureau for the job.

Yeah, I heard that too. I was wrong, though: it’s (I’m sure) someone in the BROWNBACK camp who leaked this. That would make sense.

Not many calls are made at 5am. The phone records of the guv and of the screamer should be easy to verify. Let’s see them —— CERTIFIED FROM THE PHONE COMPANY.

So who’s blowing smoke in this one? Brownback’s office? Sebelius? Quinn & Rose. If Brownback’s office could confirm the conversation then it supports the belief that Quinn & Rose were on the mark. But if Brownback’s office is now tap dancing around the issue then does it mean that they were they wrong when they said Sebelius called or are they now just trying to cover her ass? It’s getting muddier and muddier, and that just works in the Dems favor.

Or maybe she initiated the call to Dean, looking to find a way to exploit the situation for political gain.

As posted on previous threads, it doesn't even have to be anything so specific. It could have been a call from one staffer to another, or someone from the DNC calling to initiate a pre-planned set of talking points. Thus a call merely stating "You know what to do regarding the Gaurd issue" could have been the full context of the call. This leaves 'wiggle room' because nothing in the call specifically refers to the Greensburg situation, or the 'National' Guard, for that matter.

Even if it were true, which it is not, it would be a damning indictment of the Democrats anyway.

Why do we need the National Guard in Iraq in the first place? Duh, because the Democrats have been systematically gutting the US military 20 years.

Think about what it says about our military readiness and capabilities that in order to field ground forces of 135,000 troops we have to call up reservists and guardsmen? Pathetic. Remember all the BS about armor and supplies? More of the Democrats screwing our troops by not funding these things IN ADVANCE of conflicts. You don’t build and supply an army after you go to war.

Based on the world as it is, and the potential of this country, we should be able to field a quarter of a million troops in a relatively short time. We NEED that capability.

I think a Grand Jury should be called with lots of subpoenas issued to all of the RATS involved. Catching one or more of them lying should be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Subject: phone records for Dean/Sebelius/Quinn&Rose controversy

Sir: I am working on a freelance piece regarding the controversy over whether a certain conversation occured between Chairman Howard Dean and Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. It purportedly occured at approximately 5am (I don’t know the time zone) on or about May 10, 2007.

Pursuant to the information on the Quinn and Rose radio program, the talk show hosts suggested that they have a source claiming that Dean encouraged Sebelius to use the recent Kansas tornado for political purposes.

Pursuant to my conversation with Dag Vega, I am making a request to have phone records made available to the press. The records must be certified by the phone company. Since the time zone for the time in question is unknown, please see that a several hour window if made available. In particular, it is important for the press to see any calls made by the staff of the DNC or by Chairman Dean himself to the area code 785 in Topeka, Kansas.

If you willingly provide such records for the press, you will be able to end the controversy. In the face of such evidence, Quinn and Rose would have no choice but to issue a retraction and apology. Certainly, you would welcome such a speedy conclusion. We know that the DNC would never want to exploit people’s heartache and tragedy for your own political purposes.

Thank you for your consideration.

...Doug

I’ll check in later, gang. Unfortunately, I have to attend a funeral today.

I would much rather be attending the funeral of the Democratic Party. Let’s hope we all live to see that glorious day.

I think Brownback’s office is tap-dancing. If he would have talked to Hannity, that would have been different-—if the conversation didn’t happen, why not say so? I think he’s trying to protect Sebelius cause of “new tone” crap. It’s getting old.
