WASHINGTON The following is a partial transcript of the May 13, 2007, edition of "FOX News Sunday With Chris Wallace":
"FOX NEWS SUNDAY" HOST CHRIS WALLACE: Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani has been in the center of a political storm ever since his comments about abortion in a recent debate.
Well, this week on the campaign trail he struggled to answer critics on both sides of the issue.
On Friday, we sat down with the former mayor in Tyler, Texas for his first in-depth interview since the controversy started, as we continue our series, Choosing the President.
WALLACE: Mr. Mayor, welcome back to "FOX News Sunday."
RUDY GIULIANI: Thank you, Chris. Nice to be here.
WALLACE: Let's start with abortion and any confusion that remains about where you stand. In the Republican debate last week, you said it would be OK if the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and also OK if they didn't.
GIULIANI: I'm very, very passionate about abortion and the whole issue of abortion. But it leads me to a conclusion that may be different than some, the same as others, which is I oppose it. That's a principle I've held forever, and I'll hold it forever. That's not going to change.
But I also believe that in a society like ours, where people have very, very different consciences about this, it's best for us to respect each other's differences and allow for choice.
So with regard to Roe against Wade, since I'm seeking the presidency of the United States and my view is that there shouldn't be a litmus test on Roe against Wade, it seems to me the best position to take is I don't want a litmus test for judges.
We didn't want Justice Roberts or Justice Alito to answer that question...

Paging Ted Olson, Paging Ted Olson. Pick up the courtesy phone, your conscience is calling.
He couldn’t give any answer at all as to why he opposes abortion - nothing.
HE IS DONE!
Somewhere, there must be a tear in Regan’s eyes.
This country cannot stand any more socialism, any more taxation, any more “compassinate conservatism”, any more illegal aliens and any more attacks on our Constitution.
Bye Rudy — go join the Dems — that is where you belong.
But you ARE, Rudy. You're deciding it begins at birth. Either that, or you don't mind humans being killed after their life has begun.
The moral relativism of his liberalism is sickening.
I despise the "I'm personally opposed but.." guys even more than the pro-infanticide crew. At least the latter have enough "guts" to show some conviction, even if it is morally bankrupt.
I believe Rudy is a good man but he is confused and doesn’t know it. A woman’s conscience would never lead her to kill her baby! It is simply the darkside that works on people’s minds to accept abortion as a plausible alternative which only leads to more misery.
There is nothing fiscally conservative about a social liberal. These social liberals are going to bankrupt and destroy the very thing that sets this nation apart from all other nations around this globe.
I guess.
“HE IS DONE!”
As a Republican - yes.
But something tells me he will run as a third party candidate. That would be very interesting because as much as I wouldn’t like it, he has wide appeal in the middle - pro-choice Republicans, security-minded Democrats, people looking for a new direction. With the right running mate, he would take a big chunk out of the middle.
Rudy is a despicable and repugnant creature.
He’s a liberal!
The GOP can do better ... but probably won’t.
“This country cannot stand any more socialism, any more taxation, any more compassinate conservatism, any more illegal aliens and any more attacks on our Constitution.
Bye Rudy go join the Dems that is where you belong.”
Thank you!
Rudi has become the stealth liberal flunky of the DNC, running as a Republican to insure several liberals leftists running on both tickets...
Bull crap! He's trying to sit on the fence and placate both sides of every important issue. Giuliani is nothing more than a charlatan Democrat masquerading as a Republican. Any intelligent person can see that, if he/she wants to. Giuliani is not the savior of the Republican Party, he is the destroyer of it.
Rudys stance on gun control, both fer and agin it, his ability to change his belief in what the Constitution means depending on who his employer is, his idea of being a fiscal conservative as being one who slowed the growth of government, and his stance on immigration being issuing a national ID to law abiding people in order to find out who the criminals are (i.e. numbering the straw in the haystack while trying to find the needle), oh, and the whole abortion confusion, makes him a great candidate.... for the Democrat party.
