I see Mitt skipped the part of Mormon doctrine that their scriptures came from the angel Maroni and the golden salamander. “Kooky” doesn’t even begin to cover Mormon doctrine.

Mr. Romney acknowledged that these beliefs, and many other Mormon teachings, are mutually-exclusive of so-called “biblical evangelical Christianity” but said, “I think we can all agree that all true Christians believe that God wants us to believe that we’re all true Christians. He’s a big-tent God.”

Scrappleface does always entertain.

Sometimes their satire is a little too acurate.

I don’t like Mormonism, but I like Mitt. He is not running for a religious position, but for president of a secular government. Kooky or not, mormons DO tend to be moral people. I hate the door knockers, but Mitt won’t be doing that as President.

First of all Romney is not a kook. I don’t care what religion he is for I shall vote for the man I feel does the best job at hand. I believe the Mormon faith is as good as any other that believer in Jesus .As far as God being within you , Moses said that when he came down from the mountain. Moses said God’s light is in everyman.I know about the appearance of God to Joseph Smith and WE DO NOT KNOW IF THAT HAPPENED OR NOT. People today dohn’t believe that , but, as a Catholic I say it could have happened , no body picks who God comes to only Al Sharpton. His faith is who he is , I see a lot of people listening to Glenn Beck and he is the same faith. I think you vote the best for our country. If the man gets down on his knees and prays to God for guidance that, ok by me. He has the worlds best advisor.

This is yet another thread that really makes me wonder why I ever believed that Christians really exemplify their namesake. You know, the more I see go on here at FR, the more I become convinced that what the Left accuses the Right of is true. I’ve been on this board for nearly 4 years (and lurked more years before that), but I’m growing tiresome of being offended day after day on threads like these for my personal beliefs in God—and yes, I’m LDS. Oh I can already anticipate the mocking responses I’m going to get for “playing the victim.” Here’s a tip...save yourselves the effort.

I’m yet undecided who I want to be the nominee for the Republican party, but one thing I know for sure—whoever that man may be (even McCain...::shudder::), I’ll throw my support behind him because I know what the scary liberal alternative will be if I do not. What is truly pathetic, though, is seeing some posters who would much rather not vote than vote for a Mormon. I’m unsure as to what is motivating this fear, however. Is it that they believe that a Mormon president would take direction from church headquarters? If so, I would suggest the following: take a good, hard look at two of the most prominent Mormons in the Senate—Orrin Hatch (former chairman of the Judiciary Committee) and (::shudder::) Harry Reid (current Senate Minority Leader). Both are on completely different ends of the polical spectrum, yet I challenge anyone here to find one example of where their religion has been used to further public policy. In fact, I daresay that Hatch and Reid have had more influence on public policy in their 25+ years in the Senate as lawmakers than a Mormon president ever would.

I’ve seen some other posts about how anyone who believes the tenets of the LDS religion must be insane and therefore too unstable to hold the highest office in America. Yeah, Romney must be insane—I guess that’s why his self-made wealth is estimated to be over $150 million. If that’s the case, I want a little of his insanity to rub off on me.

Somehow though, I have a gut feeling that people are fearful that voting for a Mormon means that their personally endorsing his religious beliefs. I guess they must have missed that whole separation of church and state lesson in school. As a Mormon, I don’t vote for someone based on whether they are Mormon, so why should you? I would have rather died than vote for Dingy Harry here in Nevada, even though he attends my same church, so I voted for the other guy who held my same political views.

So go right ahead and let religion be your litmus test. As I always like to say, Conservatives have always been their own worst enemy.

The President is supposed to be the most capable administrator, not the person who "looks and believes most like me". That's the Democrat rationale for nominating candidates.

Southern Baptists may not get a Southern Baptist President this time. So what? As long as the President who is elected has no plans to set up death camps for evangelicals (and I haven't seen that yet in the Romney platform, though it might be in Hillary's) it's supposed to make no difference under the American system whether he is a Mormon or a Hindu or a Zoroasterian.

The whole discussion is laughable. Did Clinton’s evangelical Baptist beliefs control what he did in the Oval Office? Why should Romney be anymore controlled by his beliefs?

I could be wrong but I’d bet Romney is the new front runner over the next couple of months. Guiliani is faltering and McCain is not in a position to take advantage. The door is opening and unless a serious conservative breaks out of the pack I think Romney is the next poll leader.

I’ve certainly been wrong before.

I’m not so concerned about the Mormon thing as much as how Mass went down the toilet under his leadership by letting gays get married and kindergarten children reading pro gay material.
Last time I checked, a conservative would of fought against this crap.
