Dear Mr Robinson:

We are writing on behalf of our client, the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

A post by “coffee260” on FreeRepublic.com today states that this morning, on the Quinn & Rose show on XM, co-host Quin stated that the DNC chairman, Gov. Howard Dean had called Gov Kathleen Sebelius (D-Kans) “around 5:00am on morning after a tornado destroyed the town of Greensburg, Kansas and discussed with here what to say about the tornado and how to blame the war in Iraq and the Bush administration on a slow response to the aftermath.”

The statement was made by Mr Quinn, repeated on FreeRepublic, is demonstrably, unequivocally and absolutely false. Gov Dean had no such conversation with Gov Sebelius, ever.

No effort was made by FreeRepublic to contact anyone at the DNC for comment or to check the accuracy of these statements before they were published. FreeRepublic not only repeated this statement, but further stressed that Quinn’s “source” was extremely reliable and in a position that would give him direct knowledge of these revelations.

The statements quoted above are false and defamatory, are libelous and slanderous and clearly threaten to interfere with the DNC’s operations and ability to solicit support and raise funds by predjuding the organization in the eyes of the Democratic Party supporters and the public. For these reasons, we demand that FreeRepublic immediately cease and desist from Further dissemination of the above quoted statements or any statements similar in substance and immediately post a retraction of these statements in a location on its web pages at least as prominent as that on which the original story appeared.

Please let us know by noon, May 11, 2007, whether you intend to comply with these requests.

Jim Robinson is laughing at this thread, thus his tongue in cheek response. If there really were an issue, he would have personally posted a thread informing us of any potential problem. As of now, I don't know that he did since I haven't had any time to search it out.

My original question to RFACE still stands: How and why is it that he and not Jim Robinson posted this letter? I find it odd that rface has not yet responded to all the comments on this thread.

Should they actually succeed, they would regret it. How many incorrect stories about Republicans are discussed on the net... and how would they feel when the subject of the news story could prevent that discussion.

But anyway, the right to discuss political news stories is fundamental to democracy -there is no way this would hold up..

I think this whole Dean conversation is a con job.

Sebelius told a whopper that was disproven within 24 hours. What better way to change the subject than to have some worm call a radio host and give them a "hot tip," only to hang up and call the DNC to alert them to the game?

Attention gets deflected away from Sebilius' assininity, Dean and the DNC get to act self-righteous, and Brownback is dirtied through complicity.

Win/win for the left.

Aw, heck, I got to this thread late. A re-reading of that C&D order supplied me with the best laugh I've had all day. There are, I suppose, people who pee their pants every time some lawyer gens up an official-sounding letter, but most of them don't live hereabouts.

Just one small suggestion for the Dean mice who are earnestly and hopefully gleaning this thread - how fast do you folks figure we could shut down the DNC website on this very same basis? Do you morons really want to go there?

Dawg, I have been around here long enough to know that if such an order was directed at FR, Jim Robinson himself would have posted a thread informing us of this. As of right now, I have not read any such thread posted by JIM but in all honesty, I haven't had the time tonight to search out all the threads. If Jim Robinson has posted this notice himself, then please direct me to it then I can re-evaluate my comments..........

The only information I can go on at this time is that this letter was sent via EMAIL yesterday and posted by "rface". Who is "rface", how is it that "HE" received the email and posted it rather than Jim Robinson and why hasn't "rface" responded to any of the over 650 posts on this thread?

Last but not least, official cease and desist orders are not sent via email........
