Former President Jimmy Carter recently has stepped up his efforts to split the bonds between Evangelical voters and Israel. From The Jewish Week:
Wading into the delicate fray over the alliance between Jews and pro-Israel Evangelicals, former President Jimmy Carter last week reportedly said it was a mistake for Jews to accept such ties, and that he was working to convince Southern Baptists to change the way they look at Judaism and the Middle East.Christian Zionists can be better friends of Israel by challenging its government's policies, while accepting Judaism as a legitimate path to God, Carter told a group organized by Rabbi Michael Lerner in California last week, according to the rabbi.
"He said it was a terrible error for Jews to become allied with Christian Zionists who actually desire our conversion or burning in hell," Rabbi Lerner related in an interview Tuesday.
The alliance between Jewish and Evangelical Christian supporters of Israel has grown over the years. Evangelical support for Israel is often misunderstood and in some cases maligned-it comes often from the most noble of reasons. Regardless of one's views, this support has been very important.
The International Fellowship of Christian and Jews, headed by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, has been in the forefront of building these links and raises many millions of dollars from Evangelical Christians to help Jews around the world who are in need. Christians United for Israel has become a politically influential voice for Israel around the nation. In an era during which Israel has lost support in many quarters, this support from Evangelical Christians should be welcomed. Yet, there are forces developing that are not attempting to erode this support. I wrote about this dynamic earlier in this article, "Splitting the Evanngelicals from Israel".
Also, I was speaking the “phooey” to the grape juice issue, not the pre-mil one.
It’s nice to see Carter expending himself I something I know is an exercise in futility.
Christians won’t be split from Israel. It won’t happen.
IMO, I doubt very much that pellagra is the cause of Carter’s psychosis, but there are many other possibilities to choose from as to why he is what he is.
Michael Lerner is an even worthlesser bum.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
Maybe they can get Kathleen Sebelius to have some words put in her mouth.
Why can't these incompetents just go away and leave the world to finally get on a path to peace?
I've been trying to forget about Carter for years, but the islamic terrorism he birthed will be with us for generations, and that's still not enough satisfaction for him.
Dispensationalist, therefore take land promises made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to be literal. Looking at those territorial promises themselves, it is seen that they have not yet been fully granted. They will be granted at some point in the future. Dispensationalists believe in a future restoration of Israel as the principle nation on earth during a literal reign of David’s greater Son, Davids Antitype, Jesus Christ (Also called the son of Abraham in Matthew 1:1; other).
Dispensationalists see no need to spiritualize the word land, when seen in the Scriptures as promised to Israel.
“Also, I was speaking the phooey to the grape juice issue, not the pre-mil one.”
Don’t worry, we’re not thin-skinned.
POS Jimmy Carter is getting together with some POS Jews who want to destroy Israel. No surprises here
I’m a Christian Zionist, but a Catholic. I believe (personally, this is not a Catholic doctrine!) that our ‘older’ brothers and sisters, while wrong on Christ, will get the chance to see the error of their ways on Judgment Day. They are God’s chosen people, with whom he had a convenant. I doubt God plans to go back on his word.
I wonder what God thinks of Carter’s attepts at disunity of Christians...
The guy's a HARD CORE leftist, behind the communist "Tikkun Olam" movement... Many Jews buy into the "soft side," but they leaders of the movement are "true believers." Like Lerner.

What has come over this clown? Although no friend to Israel as president, his hatred for the Jewish people and homeland have apparently multiplied exponentially since he left office.
If he wants to really do some good work, he should join Al Gore’s crusade to stop global warming. The two of it could do it themselves by sewing their lips shut.
Well there was that business about dragging Menachim Begin and Anwar Sadat together in order for him to get his nonsensical Nobel Prize.
Bribing the Egyptians, and selling out the Israelis, was such great "diplomacy."
Carter has been a menace for at least 30 years.
Carter, is worse, than Clinton was in a lot of ways, but Jimmy is at least now no longer a serious threat to Peace on Earth.
I have heard it suggested else.
Certain verses such as Isaiah 49:1 have been construed to refer to the USA.
There other verses as well, but I do not come here to FR.com in order to teach Sunday School.
I have a hunch that your knowledge of Biblical Eschatology is not comprehensive, and that is not intended as an insult, just an observation.
You said — “Im a Christian Zionist, but a Catholic. I believe (personally, this is not a Catholic doctrine!) that our older brothers and sisters, while wrong on Christ, will get the chance to see the error of their ways on Judgment Day. They are Gods chosen people, with whom he had a convenant. I doubt God plans to go back on his word.”

Well, this might be a little bit misleading or prone to misunderstanding. In fact, I’m not exactly sure what you mean by — “will get the chance to see the error of their ways on Judgment Day.”
From what I see, the Jews (the remnant) will all accept Jesus as the Messiah of Israel and all be saved on the return of Christ to the earth. That is what Paul says about all Israel being saved. That’s at the end of the Tribulation period, at which time Jesus Christ sets up His Millennial reign of the Kingdom, here on earth.
Now, if you’re referring to this point in time as “Judgment Day”, then I’m not sure you’re quite right. It doesn’t seem like Judgment Day, although there will be the separating of the Sheep from the Goats at that time. But, that’s not quite Judgement Day.
What I think of Judgment Day is the Great White Throne Judgment of Revelation 20. And that’s still long into the future, from when Christ returns to this earth.
Also, it is important to realize that without Jesus Christ as one’s savior, that “chosen people” or not, Jew or not, they will not (individually) get any second chance at the Great White Throne Judgment. Those who have died without Christ (or without the faith of Abraham, as described by Paul, prior to the time of Christ on earth) — will die being “lost”. And that’s true for all, Jew or Gentile...

I don’t know who is a greater enemy of Jews, Carter or “Rabbi” Michael Lerner. Both are men of pure evil who must be countered at every turn.
I continue to be amazed at how far this has impacted American cultureespecially politicallyin recent years. Although we undertstand the Jewish people and Israel cannot trust "in the arm of flesh;" of mere men, the geo-political impact, especially with Christians United for Israel, is pretty impressive.
From Hillary Clinton down to Carter, the left is hyperventilating over Evangelical influence in our culture and foreign policy.
Which is certainly okay with us!
