Sources: Brothers Charged in Alleged Fort Dix Terror Plot May Have Been Smuggled Into U.S.

FORT DIX, N.J. — The three brothers being charged as part of the alleged Fort Dix terror plot may have been smuggled across the border, FOX News has learned. Dritan "Anthony" or "Tony" Duka, 28; Shain Duka, 26; and Eljvir "Elvis" Duka, 23, were in the United States illegally. Federal investigators were exploring whether they were smuggled into the country or entered as stowaways.

Because the three men entered the United States without inspection, there is no legal record of their entry.

The six being charged in the alleged plot — Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer, 22; Serdar Tatar, 23; Agron Abdullahu, 24; and the Duka brothers — were ordered held without bail for a hearing Friday....

Four of the arrested men were born in the former Yugoslavia, one was born in Jordan and one came from Turkey, authorities said. Three were in the United States illegally; two had green cards allowing them to stay in this country permanently; and the sixth is a U.S. citizen.

Federal investigators are now checking whether the latter three lied on their immigration paperwork...

One drove a cab, three were roofers. Another worked at a 7-Eleven and a sixth at a supermarket. Their alleged plot to attack Fort Dix was foiled by another blue-collar worker: a video store clerk...

Weis said the U.S. is seeing a "brand-new form of terrorism," involving smaller, more loosely defined groups that may not be connected to Al Qaeda but are inspired by its ideology...

The restaurant's chef, Joseph Hofflinger, 35, quit after learning the owner was the father of one of the suspects.

"My son is in the 82nd Airborne," Hofflinger told ABC. "I won't work for a place that supports terrorism so I'm out."

I think they would have to have at least birth certificates, innoculation records, and some kind of parent or guardian signature. Although it’s certainly possible that they had all this but it was actually forged, or that schools don’t really follow up even if they suspect there is a problem. Or possibly, like hospitals, they’re not allowed to report what they find.

I saw the guy on TV and none of the reporters called him on the his use of the term “homegrown” as far as I could tell.

“I fear that if this is true, it will REALLY hurt Pres Bush.”

Has a president ever had an approval rating with a negative number before?

Gee, I am so-o-o-o-o surprised. Does anyone know exactly what the INS DOES? I’ve had to stand in line coming back into the U.S. and all I can see is that they do is glower at people. Do they have to go through extensive training to accomplish that unpleasant look on their faces? What an accomplishment and oh how it protects us. Disgusting.

This may be the reason we are now hearing that Pres. Bush is willing to consider enforcement before amnesty. Sept. 12, 2001 would have been the proper time!

Unlike the MANY other incidents of terrorists types coming over that border, this one is getting some publicity.

As Duncan Hunter said, 155,000 OTMS caught last year. That means 4 times that number got through.

You are aware that these people got in 12 years ago, right?

This has nothing to do with Bush.

It's been repeated many times on this forum that it would only take one terrorist incident where the terrorists were found to have come across the border illegally (as in smuggled) and the whole amnesty thing along with open borders in general would collapse.

That appears to have happened, so....I'm waiting.

Doesn't appear to be happening....hmmm hmmm hmmm...waiting...soon though, Right?

This "incident" will show the utter lawlessness and malfeasance of this and the previous administration. They have intentionally let this happen because they think they can "manage" terrorist incidents in the U.S. with a massive police state. They will also claim that this is just what happened in this case - the terrorists were stopped before anything actually went down.

But the truth is that these guys are dumb as rocks. They got caught by engaging in gross stupidity.

Other groups will not be that obvious. And are certainly already here, preparing, biding their time, waiting to strike.

How will the administration manage that?

When I come back from overseas I always bring some food to declare as an ag import so I can go through that line. Much faster, and more pleasant. They are actually looking for something, and do a pretty good job. I have had my chorizo confiscated, however, pork being a no-no.

Actually it does. They were APPREHENDED under Bush’s administration, but will MSM focus on that?

Evidently - they weren't pre-screedned before they were brought into the country.

That is the big problem with our immigration system. Very little screening. Last year USCIS admitted issuing permanent residency to thousands that they can't even find the files for and never bothered to review. My sheriff has arrested MS13 gangbangers and some with family ties to drug cartels with legitimate green cards growing dope in our national forests.

Yet, this is the agency they want to administer a 'guest worker' program for 20 million plus! Insane!

Illegal entry by non-Mexicans rises--2005

After decades of attempting to dam the flow of Mexican immigrants crossing into the United States illegally, federal agents say a new crisis is emerging along the southern border and they are helpless to stop it. Non-Mexicans are spilling over the border in record numbers - some from countries with terrorist ties - and most are set free soon after being captured.

"Already this year, the number of non-Mexican apprehensions has far outpaced last year's total in just eight months. And while they are still a relatively small percentage compared with the number of illegal Mexicans, critics say the federal government's policy in dealing with them is far more dangerous. "

Because OTMs, or "Other Than Mexicans" as the Border Patrol classifies them, must be returned to their country of origin, they cannot be simply sent back across the southern border, as most Mexicans are. Under US law, they must be detained (in the US) pending a deportation hearing. The problem is, immigration detention centers are packed, so most OTMs are given a court summons and told to return in three months. A full 85 percent don't.

According to the Border Patrol, some 465,000 OTMs have taken advantage of this "catch and release" policy to settle here in the US. "It's an insane policy which encourages OTMs to come into the country illegally, and we shouldn't be shocked that they are coming in record numbers," says T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, which represents more than 9,000 agents.

In fact, he says, after crossing the border, many OTMs flag down agents or walk up to them and surrender, knowing they will be released. "The word is out," says Mr. Bonner. "They know that as soon as they are caught, they will be free to roam at will."

In a hearing in the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security earlier this month, Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar said his agency has apprehended 919,000 illegal immigrants so far this year - 119,000 of whom were OTMs.

"That puts the agency on pace to hit 150,000 such apprehensions by the end of the fiscal year, almost triple last year's high-water mark of 65,000 OTM apprehensions. In fiscal 2003, the numbers were around 40,000, and in 2002 and 2001, around 30,000 each.

Most are from Brazil and Central America, but Mr. Aguilar reported that last year 644 came from "countries of concern."

Note: The catch and release policy for OTMs was finally stopped, but that was less than two years ago. These numbers are enormous when you realize that these are just the people we catch.

That’s what I read yesterday. And that’s why we’ve been wondering how they managed to go to US schools, which they apparently did. NJ has a big Albanian population, thanks to Bill Clinton, so I suppose they just blended in with the crowd. There was some mention of their father the other day, but he seems to have disappeared from the news, or possibly the early reports had him confused with one of the other men. But it’s probably fairly easy for children to get into the country illegally, especially at a time when lots of other people were being brought in from the country they came from, and if they are travelling with their parents (who probably would have gotten their forged documentation from the Albanian mafia).

No, of course not. The MSM is probably already worrying about how the EEEVIL BUSH is violating the rights of the poor innocent Muslim - er, immigrants - who just wanted to have a little fun playing “Kill the Americans.”

LOL, hadn't considered that : )

My first cousin in New Hampshire and her boyfriend eloped and married at 17. She basically grew up with her kids, and became a grandmother before she was 30. Sadly, she passed away -- seemingly overnight -- from liver cancer at age 43.

You are making plenty of assumptions. I have not read anywhere that they attended US High Schools and Middle Schools. I bet we will find out that they [Duka brothers] came here within the past five years.
