Thompson wins Washington GOP straw poll

Not that this necessarily means a whole lot, but it's worth noting. According to the official state party report on Saturday's annual statewide auction dinner:

Fred Thompson was the runaway winner, taking half of all votes cast. Clearly the other candidates have some work to do to match the support that former Sen. Thompson is receiving from grassroots activists. ... Fred Thompson 50% Mitt Romney 16% Rudy Giuliani 15% Duncan Hunter 10% John McCain 5% Tom Tancredo 1% Tommy Thompson 1% Mike Huckabee 1% Newt Gingrich <1%

I don't pretend for a minute to be a political genius, but it seems to me, that at this point in any campaign, that grassroots (aka real live people not MSM spin) is exactly where you need support to come from. It's a strong foundation to grow from. Personally - I think it will lead to massive amounts of money coming from small donations once he officially throws hit hat in the ring.
Grassroots isn't everything, but it is an important thing. If it weren'tso important, then WHY is there so much "FRedFeaR outthere?. Ole' Fred has the Trolls coming out of the woodwork after him in full-force. This "non-campaign" campaign of his, is also doing a hell of a job at getting all his old laundry aired, discussed & dealt with - once again - without having to spend a dime on a War Room or PR firm.
Pretty darn clever I think

This waiting is just going to pi** off a lot of people.

Well, maybe SOME, but remember the old saying: "Good things come to those who wait". I think he's going to get in, and I think he is waiting for something about which we know little or nothing. Have patience.

Conservatism mixed with patriotism has never been dead. It has just be bound and gagged by the invasive Socialist agenda coupled with the corrupted MSM.

Freds OK. Hunter is far better.

I like Fred, but I wish he’d get busy getting in, or get busy staying out. This waiting is just going to pi** off a lot of people.

Oh my, here we go again indeed. It's been discussed extensively how Fred is still under contract with Law and Order until the end of their season. If he were to announce at this point, NBC would have to give every single other candidate EQUAL airtime...the amount of airtime Fred has played the DA this year.

As is, the show will end in the next couple of weeks and that equal airtime time will no longer be an issue.

Now people, before we get too excited about this, just remember one thing: state party straw polls ONLY count when Rudy wins them!

Prediction: Fred keeps blogging into his Presidency.

He will be the first true Internet-era President.

And Dems will be steamed that it wasn’t one of theirs to get modern!

I just heard from someone who was at the Washington Republican dinner at SeaTac, where the straw poll took place. 550 attended, and 160 voted in the straw poll. Thompson drew 80, Romney drew 26, Giuliani drew 24, and Duncan Hunter drew l6. So 350 people thought it was too early to vote yet. A good omen for Thompson, no argument.

I'm so very sorry. I'm a newbie and all and I totally misunderstood the rules. I'm guessing too that you can only post on a Fred Thread if you're a troll re-posting for 14th time a weak and thoroughly refuted implication that Fred is a Pro-Choice, McCain clone, Black Helicopter TriLateral Globalbist, who is JUST an actor who ONLY appeals to starstruck children, septuagenarians and action film fans. Oh and I heard once that Fred probably dislikes kittens as well. Guess I better read the "rules". /sarc off

My goodness. You are ALMOST ready to post your first vanity.

You’ve learned the Rudy rules at lightning speed.

(Of course, it appears to be the Romney and Hunter supporters/campaigns who are bashing Thompson right now.)

Hey, you’ve almost got it! You forgot that it is acceptable to post on a Fred thread if you want to claim that Fred still supports CFR, despite his explicit disavowal of it. It’s also okay to point out the Fred and John McCain are friends, so this automatically means that Fred is running flak for Johnny by taking support from Rudy, which Fred will then throw to McCain “when the time is right”.

Did we get it all yet?

Well yeah, there ya go, right there. THAT'S why Rudybots don't like Fred - he's straight! Now, if Fred would just cross-dress and give speeches to the Log Cabin "Republicans", they'd be perfectly happy with him!

I'm guessing too that you can only post on a Fred Thread if you're a troll re-posting for 14th time a weak

As everyone knows, the use of "weak" for "week" may look like a simple typo, but it clearly identifies you as a member of the NBC troll society that is promoting the Thompson candidacy as a means to shore up "Law and Order" ratings. You think you can get away with this, but we are going to "out" you!

Seriously, welcome to Free Republic. While my first choices right now are Duncan Hunter and Jim Gilmore, I could be happy with either Mitt Romney or Fred Thompson. I grew up in Tennessee and was back in the state for a short time in the 90's. I've actually voted for Fred Thompson once and have attended his fundraisers and rallies. I'll be happy to do so again if he becomes the nominee.

Bill

Don’t forget that his speech Friday night was a “letdown” (to Robert Novak)....it was midnight (Fred’s time) before they let him speak...but it just shows how he’s not up to the task ;)

GNATS!
