Prominent political fundraisers who backed Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign are reserving support for the current slate of 2008 Democrats in hopes the former vice president will swoop in for another White House bid. H.E. "Sonny" Cauthen Jr. told The Washington Times he has been flattered to get calls from candidates asking for his help this time around, but said he is hesitating on picking one while he waits to see what Mr. Gore decides. "If he wants to run, I would be very supportive of that," said Mr. Cauthen, a founding partner of the Washington lobbying firm Cauthen Forbes & Williams and a 2000 fundraiser for the Gore campaign. "I just don't see any reason for him not to run," Mr. Cauthen added. "He's the only prospective candidate we have who has already won one time. He didn't serve -- he was denied the presidency -- but he won that race." Of the 25 major players who helped raise at least $100,000 for Mr. Gore for the 2000 campaign, at least 12 have not donated or publicly committed to a candidate. "People are still somewhat reluctant to get fully engaged at this point, and part of it is that people hope that Al would consider getting into the race," said Warren Gooch, a managing partner at the Tennessee law firm Kramer Rayson and another Gore fundraiser. Mr. Gooch is backing former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, but said that if Mr. Gore entered the race, he would switch support to his longtime friend. "Some people still believe or still hope that Al will reconsider, and the fact the campaign has started so early, the front-runners can't possibly keep up the pace that they are at now," he said.

Al Gore SHOULD run. And jog. Try a bike ride. And throw in some sit-ups. And mix in a salad.
Does the inconvenient truth that Al appears to be indulging himself in some ways detract from his message?
I've said it before: there's a woman, a black and a Hispanic in the race. Therefore, after much soul-searching and wearing of hearts on sleeves, the Dems will nominate a white guy from the South. Either Gore or Edwards.
Yeah if they want him to run put a doughnut out in front of him. (not to be cruel, I just can’t stand that snotty twit)
In view of how he has labored to keep himself in the public eye since 2000, there is no doubt that he plans to run for POTUS. If he does, let’s pray that he runs a Green suit.
LOL! That wasn’t cruel, that was funny!
He didn’t win that Oscar? No matter, he’s definitely going to be the Dem candidate. As you astutely said, with “a woman, a black, and a Hispanic in the race....the Dems will nominate a white guy from the South.”
Trouble is, he’ll win. I’m not seeing a winning candidate on our side.
I can’t decide who scares me worst: Gore, Hillary, or Hussain Obama. The prospect of any of them taking control of our country is unthinkable. Why doesn’t the DNC nominate Hugo Chavez and be done with it?
If Gore runs, he’ll enter on the Green ticket and splitting the RATS votes. He’ll basically be another Nader, but better.
Run Al, run!
The Oscar goes to the producer of the film. He didn’t produce his own movie, believe it or not. I didn’t know that until Oscar night. So, yes, his film won an Oscar, but Gore, himself, doesn’t have one.
Never. He’d only take the Green Party nomination in addition to the Dem nod. He wouldn’t go the Nader route. All his supporters would have to stop grousing about Nader, for one thing.
Bring it on!

Ping me if you find one I've missed.
Be careful what you wish for. Algore will run, in my estimation, and will be a formidable opponent. He might not win, but I'd rather be facing any of the other "big three" among the 'rat's nest.
Hmmm...Do you think perhaps Tokyo Rose Pelosi is suddenly going green because she wants to be Al Gore-bachev’s VP? It is a thought.
