Didn’t Mr. Bush tell someone in the royal family back in the day (can’t remember who) that he was the black sheep in his family? They’re quite familiar with his sense of humour. I would guess that the Queen’s visit is entirely about showing support for the USA. I would also guess that she likes Mr. Bush, and finds him to be charming. As do I. :)

I still like the exchange between a Brit and an American.
The American told the Brit that we fought the war because we didn’t want taxation without representation. The Brit calmly asked: “How do you like taxation WITH representation?”

This article would make a perfect object lesson for a lecture on shoddy journalism. The author’s opinions were fixed long before the event. His conclusions were written; all that remained was to pick out (or invent) a few illustrations.

Her Majesty ought to be glad a man winked at her at age 81. Best guess, she wasn’t really offended!

She is not *our* queen. Our President can wink at her if he wants.

Pomposity to impress the little people or each other.

Perhaps. Or former or current colonies. But it reminds you of what we came from, of pomp and circumstance yes, but also moving forward does not always bring out the best.

Should have had a hog roast and a kegger. Would have had more fun. Tequila jello shots... mud rasslin.

Crass. There is a time and place for everything. Last night was not it. But in some aspects it seemed just short of it.

Blundering Brits lost to a small revolutionary army and they now beg for our help to protect them from their enemies. As for the Queen and that whole bunch, England certainly has a lot of money to waste to keep a powerless position going.

As for the Queen, she is old and needs to find some humor.

And, honestly, she is human. The protocol should be respected and adhered to certainly, but, the humanity cannot be lost. She and the U.S. president are both heads of State after all.

Yeah, I hate to break it to the Brit media, but President Bush is not one of Her Majesty’s subjects. If he wants to wink at her, then that’s his prerogative as an American, protocol be damned.

I’ll bet the old bat loved it and she is old enough to be his mother. If she didn’t she’ll have to just get over it. President Bush is a cutie, that wink is his signature.

It was the president’s mother, Barbara who told the Queen that her son GW was the black sheep. Barbara then asked the Queen who the black sheep in her family is and she replied ‘none of your business’. The queen does have a sense of humor.

Anyone that wears a hat like that has got to have a sense of humor. It looks like skunks mating.. :)

I am not much of one to look up to or down to other people. The whole idea of “royalty” is off putting to me.
