November Surprise

In spite of what the polls supposedly tell us, I strongly suspect that the Democrats may already have blown the 2008 election. Unlike the late Senator Aiken of Vermont, who proposed that we declare victory and get out of Vietnam, the Democrats want us to declare defeat and get out of Iraq. This, they imagine, is what the American people were demanding in the congressional election of 2006.

But it seems far more likely that the message of that election was not "Get out," but rather "Win, or get out." In any case, the position the Democrats are now taking can only have the effect of revivifying and reinforcing the sense of them as weak on national security. And this was the very factor that led to the ignominious defeat of their presidential candidate, George McGovern, in 1972, when they also misread the public temper by paying too much attention to the left wing of their party.

I hope this is right, but we had all these articles before the 2006 election to and it was not true. It is clear that the American people are sick of the war, but hopefully not enough to put a Democrat in the White House like they did in congress. I can’t imagine America with a Democratic Congress and White House. Gives me a headache.

Gas prices are going higher and higher. What is this Democratic controlled Congress doing about it.

They were critical of high gas prices before the elections of ‘06. Well, what are they doing? What’s their plan?

I look for them to self-destruct before November of ‘08.

They believe that the off chance that an accident might inconvenience a caribou is too risky to contemplate, so we should get our oil from places where thousands of heavily armed men try to kill us every day, instead. That is what they are doing about it.

They don't want lower oil prices, they want to ban fossil fuels. If that results in the death by starvation of 95% of the human race well then that is just a bonus.

"Win, or get out."

The Vietnam War had that connotation, but this one in Iraq is a lot more complicated.

The American public is not sick of the war...as much as they have become "bored" (for lack of a better term).

And while perhaps the percentage of Americans feeling more uneasy about the WOT?Iraq has grown.....it is more along the analogy of something being "a mile wide but only an inch deep"....

Meaning the the clear majority of the publics sentiment on the WOT/Iraq could change relatively quickly.....A creative and informative 527 ad campaign, touting our successes, touting why we are in this fight, touting why we must stay on the offensive could accomplish such.....Along with real progress on the ground (unashamedly touted progress mind you).

We lost in 06 because the GOP ran away from Victory in the WOT/Iraq....and a few domestic issues split our base....

“They were critical of high gas prices before the elections of ‘06. Well, what are they doing? What’s their plan?”

They will do nothing but blame it all on Bush as part of their Republican slander. That’s their plan.

What has the Democrats done about anything since they got into office?

The same thing they did before, moan and complain about President Bush but accomplish nothing.

“Unless the American leopard has changed his spots since then, the Democrats are in for a very big surprise in November 2008.”

Leopards spots haven’t changed, just lost intensity of color.

The WOT is just a pesky nuisance, an obstacle in the road towards a Socialist State in the eyes of the Nihilist Left that comprise the Democrat Party. Once they recovered composure after 9/11, they realized they capitulated ground and are currently retaking that which they lost. Over reaction perhaps, but that in itself will be their demise in Nov. ‘08.

Democrat Troop Withdrawal Plan Labeled ‘Inadequate’

Sheik Ahmad Bahr, acting Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, declared that the American plan for surrender in Iraq is inadequate. “By right, every Jew and American should be killed,” Bahr demanded. “That one drop of Muslim blood has been shed by these infidels is unforgivable. They must pay the ultimate price for their aggressions against Islam.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) called the demand “unduly harsh” and said he was hopeful that a compromise could be reached. “Annihilation of a whole people is too steep a price to pay for the transgressions of its leaders,” Reid insisted. “Surely, we can arrive at a more moderate settlement.”

Reid offered a plan based upon what he called a “Nuremburg model.” “Key leaders like Bush, Chenney and Rumsfeld could be put on trial for their war crimes,” Reid suggested. “Like Goering, Hess and other Nazis were after World War II.”

Bahr called Reid’s suggestion “a starting point.” “Yes, let us begin with the instigators of these atrocities,” Bahr exclaimed. “Bring on Bush, his generals and the congressmen who authorized them. We will hang them first. The rest can await their proper turn. A full cleansing must be accomplished if we are to rid the planet of these vermin.”

I agree I thought their rally cry is we only went there for oil? Okay then why is the barrel of oil the highest in 15 years. It may be we are trying to help a dictatorship into democracy. Hell even the left cant use that as a reason to discredit this war. But you will not see this in todays news.

yeah, it’s not really free enterprise when it comes to gasoline because the big oil companies are all in collusion together. Isn’t there a law on the books against what they are doing with the prices. I think all of America should boycott the oil companies. Problem is that they have so much money they could just wait us out. The switchgrass alcohol GW was talking about sure sounds good about now. Let’s get a move on before they raise the prices alot more. Good grief!

Democrats can do as much about the short-term gas prices as Republics - nothing.

It bothers people, so blame the guy in power for it because why not?

Only long-term can energy prices be influenced and that can only be done by a combination of drilling (temporary, transitory), finding alternatives and greater efficiency.

If you are upset that gas prices are so high, my suggestion is to get a more efficient vehicle.

Here is some simple math for you:

A 100 mile trip at 20 miles per gallon costs $15 with gas at $3 a gallon.

You want to reduce the price in half there are two ways:
1. Reduce the price of gas by half
2. Improve your gas mileage to 40 mpg.

Perhaps you enjoy funding the Russians, Iranians, Venezuelans and our good friends the Saudis.

Seems like a bad idea to me though
