>>I just hope she remembers that we kicked their butts.

I thought her eyes were going to pop out of her head when GW misspoke and said She helped us celebrate our bicentennial in “1776”.

For some reason, British Monarchs don’t like being reminded about 1776. Why is that?

I don’t mind being 40, but I think I’d be a little stuned if anyone suggested I was around in 1776. (Although it didn’t seem to bother President Reagan, bless his heart!)

You hate the Brits for 1776, you must really still be p*ssed at the Japs and Germans?

‘For some reason, British Monarchs don’t like being reminded about 1776. Why is that?’

Is it the same reason that Americans don’t like being reminded that if England hadn’t settled America and then spent 150 years protecting the American settlers from the French and Spanish, you wouldn’t have had the chance to join forces with the French and rebel? ;-)

“For some reason, British Monarchs don’t like being reminded about 1776. Why is that?”

Because some Scotsman wrote “Wealth of Nations” that year, and despite having the inside track on the teachings of that book the Brits let other nations beat them out on implementing the principals espoused in that book. Especially an upstart former colony in North America.

As I watched this live, I thought the problem with the fauxpas to be the issue of the Queen's age if she had been here in 1776. W stopped to quietly laugh at his own mistake, but I don't think the Queen caught his self-depricating humor. But then neither does the press.

I cringed when he said that. HuffPo is having a field day with it, and so will the msm. The left was hoping for a gaffe, and they got one. I can just imagine the outrage the left-wing media in the UK will show.

Cos its only three years after some dumb yanks chucked a whole shipload of perfectly good tea products into the bloody bay! You were a real ‘wild bunch’ back then hey? “Right, to start this reevolooshun I’m going to get rid of all the tea in them these colonies!!!” Not have a riot or a full on coup detate, NEVER!!!

I realise that your independence means alot to you, as it should, but when you come from a country with thousands (thats, like, y’know, with three 0’s I reckon...) of years of history, a little date in someone elses calender means spit. Your is one country among many that had to fight for independence from Great Britain, so I’m sure our Queen just tunes the locals out when travelling to a former dominion.
