When you say that the people in western Kansas vote for free handouts could you explain? I grew up about 40 miles west of Greensburg. My father and husband are both farmers who work 12 hours a day 7 days a week in the winter and 15 to 16 hours 7 days a week during the summer. I don’t know anyone around here who wants a handout. We work for what we have. And yes, people in Kansas (especially southwest Kansas) are used to having tornados, sometimes they become a weekly occurance. What we are not used to is whole communities being wiped out and coming out of their experience with only the clothes on their backs. I have a very good friend has 3 children who went through this horrendous experience on Friday evening and has nothing left of her life. In fact, there were hours during the evening that she did not even know if 2 of her kids, who were at other peoples houses, were even alive! Kansas has not had this type of disaster since the Udall tornado of 1955. I don’t blame any of this on anyone (especially George Bush...or even our governor!) I would like to ask for everyones thoughts and prayers to be with the Greensburg people at this time. Thanks!!

Have any Freepers organized relief? material/money/shelter/etc.

I'm about 1400 miles away but would be willing to drive out to help or contribute to a fund.

Prayers were said yesterday for those affected by the storm in my Sunday school class, choice, men's prayer group and during the offertory. I live where hurricanes Charley, Francess and Jeanne crossed paths in central Florida, so these were heart felt and sincere prayers. You will continue to be in our prayers.

I am sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was raised in Southeast Kansas and went to high school in Iola. I may have been mistaken about Western Kansas being liberal and the KC area being conservative. It might be vice versa. Tell me what it is. Thanks!
