Riot alert for Sarkozy victory

Thousands of riot police will be deployed in Paris tonight after warnings that victory for Nicolas Sarkozy, the conservative candidate in today’s presidential election, could spark violent protests.

Fears of a repeat of the rioting that swept France two years ago intensified as the final opinion polls pointed to an overwhelming victory for Sarkozy. A crowd of up to 40,000 Sarkozy supporters was expected on the Champs Elysées in central Paris to celebrate the result. Police believe that gangs of youths from the suburbs might confront them.

Sarkozy has promised a “fraternal” republic but said last week that he did not regret having described young delinquents as “scum” in 2005 in remarks widely believed to have ignited the rioting.

The interior ministry said that 8,000 riot police were being placed on stand-by in the suburbs — equivalent to the force deployed at the height of the violence, when 10,000 cars and dozens of businesses were burnt in three weeks of mayhem.

The correct title should be #The Riot is ON~...I was on my way to the Picasso Museum this morning and ran across two burned out cars, one a VW Beetle and the other a nice Audi. This is close to the section of Paris (Saint Denis) that had the riots last year, so I think the car burners were doing a little practice the night BEFORE the election. It is clear and cool in Paris today, so if there will be riots, the weather will not be a factor. I took pictures of the cars and of an impromptu Royal rally at the Fountaine St Vincent last night and will post them on FR when I get time this week. In the meantime, I think that within an hour or two, the results will be a foregone conclusion, even though no numbers can be released here until after 8pm local time.

It looks like the leftists over there are just like the leftists over here. I wonder they they will run to some feel good judge and try to have this overturned like the leftists over here do.

Isn't that sentence missing an adjective?

The last two nights in Paris, I have noticed more police and military out and about in the city. I was joking that their military should do more than protect the LOuvre, and tonite we may see if they are up to snuff. I will say the police and military did look pretty serious and things may get ugly fast.

I love the use of the word ‘suburb’ here in France. In Chicago we called it Cabrini Green housing development, or the hood, but here in Paris the call them the suburbs.

Win or lose, the Leftist/Socialist/Marxist scum will cause trouble. It’s what they do.

They have no respect for rule of law. To them, their selfish ends justify their destructive means—even if it harms the “workers” to whom they pander.

It is 4:30 in France if this computer clock is right. The results by law can’t be released until 8pm, but outside of france the exit polls will be out long before then. So people OUTSIDE of France will know BEFORE those who live here know. Kind of crazy, but true.

That’s great you are there for this. Eye-witness is always considerably different from official reports. Tell what you see and avoid crowds.

Well France - Welcome to the war against Islamic expansion.

Now France will pay the price for the “screwing” you gave the rest of the world.....while France was hiding under the Islamic sheets trying to make a fast buck.
