Colorado is trending Dem... I don't like our chances of retaining Wayne Allard's seat for the GOP. The Dems already have one and they have a good chance of picking up the open seat next year.

Last I heard, Owens and his wife are back together. I believe it was a seperation, not a divorce.

But your point is accurate : his personal problems likely helped to end any 2008 Presidential run.

I thought Owens was a good Governor for Colorado.

>>>>>My disappointment is less on his misses with TABOR than he did not appear to be a good party leader.

I'll agree with you there. The entire state GOP was asleep at the wheel starting in 2004. Hopefully they'll get better candidates to run in 2008 and 2010. Bob Schaffer is a good conservative. We need more like him running for office. My new Congressman, Doug Lamborn so far has been just as conservative as Joel Hefley was. Maybe even more. So far so good.

The State Democratic Party is weak. Problem. The state GOP party is even weaker!

I disagree. When dealing with pinheads, you've got to be assertive and if necessary, aggressive.

If McInnis, Campbell, Allard... help work this we have a decent chance.

If we attack each other and run a weak campaign...it will be ugly.

We lost McInnis’ federal congressional seat and his state seat unnecessarily. Getting them back will be hard, but possible if the candidates are supported ( unlike recently ). There are other examples too.

We should be able to take back our state Senate...it will be interesting to watch our new party leader.

Okie dokie.

If you "feel" that need...

then, you are a male harpie.

I say that as one who, very respectfully, AGREES with your politics.

Owen’s infidelity cost him.

I think we’re on the same page.

If the Colorado GOP finds better candidates, they’ll win some elections. The Democrats have offered up candidates like Bill Ritter and the Salazar brothers. They’re beatable.

There is no such thing as a male harpie. And to suggest I'm anything like Howlin, Peach, Old Friend and the rest, is creating falsehoods beyond the pale. I'm not gonna allow anyone to obfuscate the facts and the truth about my state. I will always defend Colorado from the lies and innuendo of pinheads.

When the GOP nominates candidates like Pete Coors, Greg Walcher, Bob Beauprez and Scott Tipton, Republicans can expect to lose elections.

In general, I'd agree with you. However, Walcher is a different story. I was somewhat skeptical after some of his actions at DNR, especially the direction of DOW. Administration is not the same as representation, however. During his congressional campaign he had a meet and greet in the park across the street from my store and I got to spend about a half hour, one on one. I questioned him on foreign policy, military, trade issues, property rights, you name it. Suffice it to say he would fall to the right of most FReepers. The biggest concern, and I spoke to his campaign manager about it, was his association with the NW Colorado kleptocrat gang. I figure it cost him 5 points in the election in this neighborhood. You're not suggesting he was too conservative, are you?

Now, if the pubbies hadn't rolled over on redistricting that added just enough easterners to the third district (the headwaters issue) maybe the Western Slope would have some representation in DC. BTW, the new is wearing off John Salazar. Most folks out here expect honesty, because a man's word is his bond. Anyone that can hammer his 'say one thing in Colorado, do something else in DC' behavior home in the next election should be in good shape.

It’s exceedly wonderful of you to defend Colorado, or anything else for that matter.
There aren’t many people here that I agree with more than you.

My suggestion is that there is no reason to behave like “those” people.

“There is no such thing as a male harpie.”

Sinkspur? Pukin Dog?

I’m just saying that there is no reason to “name call”.

That is all.

If Owens had run for a 3rd term, he’d have finished the job of reducing the state GOP to a permanent minority status. Grossly incompetent RINO. I can’t believe we thought the guy was Presidential material.

Lotsa GOP candidates and elected politicos are good guys. Bob Beauprez is a good guy. Just a lousy gubernatorial candidate. You can be knowledegable on the issues and be bad on the campaign trail. Barry Goldwater, case in point.

>>>>>BTW, the new is wearing off John Salazar.

That's good to hear. The downside to the state GOP, basically mirrors the downside to the national GOP. Its a lack of leadership at the top. From Bush right on down the political chain of command. If the people get sick of no results, that will help the GOP`s chances.

Goldwater wasn’t running to win in ‘64. He knew full well after the assassination that no Republican was going to win that fall, so he just “let ‘er rip.”

As for Beauprez, there was almost no Republican that would’ve won succeeding the RINO Owens (Conservatives succeeding RINOs in the Governor’s office almost never happen, Democrats almost always succeed them, better than 90% of the time), so there was little he could’ve done. Much like Dan Lungren in ‘98 in California trying to follow RINO Pete Wilson. Beauprez needs to try to get his old House seat back from Ed Pearljam. Ditto McInnis against John Salazar.

I see you're still pushing your asinine BULLoney. We've been here before, you and I. Owens is no RINO. LOL

Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt. Just because you can’t handle the facts and the truth, don’t jump down my throat. Colorado remains another example of RINO Gubernatorial mismanagement under Owens, and you’ve got Ritter now to run things down even further after being handed the office to him on a silver platter.

Fact #1, in 1998, the GOP held 4 out of 5 statewide offices.

Today: We hold 2 out of 5 (and just barely, at that).

Fact #2, in 1998, the GOP held both Senate seats and 4 out of 6 Congressional seats.

Today: We hold 1 Senate seat (tenuously) and barely a paltry 3 out of 7 House seats. The first time the GOP has held a minority of seats there since 1980, and the most number of rodent-held seats since 1964.

Fact #3, in 1998, we held both bodies of the legislature for well over 2-3 decades, often by wide margins. One of the most premier GOP legislative majorities in the nation where we were in the minority most everywhere else.

Today: We hold neither body and slipped even further away from majority status.

Don’t get me started on policy. The Owens legacy: losses on every front. Like I said, denial just ain’t a river in Egypt. Stop shilling for Owens, because you’re embarrassing yourself.

Oh, and BTW, “Mr. Conservative ‘Republican’”, your Colorado Springs seemed to veer rodent last November when it bounced a Black Republican State Senator in a heavily GOP seat by a shocking loss of over 20%. Care to explain why Ed Jones isn’t still in office ?

Aside from your laughing, the only other people laughing are the rodents, all the way into office on the backs of RINO incompetence. It’s a real hoot.

>>>>>Just because you can’t handle the facts and the truth, don’t jump down my throat.

The truth doesn't bother me. If you review my posts on this thread, I consistently said that the GOP was asleep at the wheel in 2004, 2005 and 2006!

My bone of contention with you is over your ongoing rhetoric, in calling Bill Owens a RINO. That is absurdity of the highest order. But typical for a malcontent and disciple of kooky Rick Stanley.

Ed Jones campaign sucked and he was another bad candidate. Period. John Morse had a huge cash cow in the numerous out of state Democratic Party backed, 527 groups that sponsored his campaign and the endless attack ads. I'm sure the El Paso County GOP will work at taking Morse down and if history is any indicator, Morse won't be around long.
